Interesting glass facts!

Before modern glass the wavy glass in your windows was “cylinder” glass like in this 1918 picture.

The glass was blown out thru machines into these cylinders and then the cylinders would be laid down on a table, scored on one side and heated again so they would slowly lay down flat into a sheet of glass that could be cut into the pieces we have in our historic windows.

For me, knowing the story behind the things that surround us every day makes those things that much more interesting.

Epic Custom Glass is hiring a Lead Glazier/ Experienced Glass Installer. We are looking for someone who has at minimum 5 years experience in residential glazing. The ideal candidate will have experience installing and measuring showers, mirrors, glass railings, glass walls, treads, cabinets, and tabletops. We are a locally owned and operated, extremely busy custom glass shop in the mountains. We are seeking someone who is reliable, honest, a good team player, and someone who takes pride in their work. Epic Custom Glass is growing! We are located in beautiful Glenwood Springs, CO, and we supply windows, showers, mirrors, glass, railings, and screens for residential and commercial homes and projects. We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and dependable individual to permanently join our team as a full-time Estimator.
General Duties:
• Working as a team with customers, project managers, glaziers, office staff, and the owners.
• Developing project estimates for glass projects.
• Providing Excellent Customer Service
• Requesting additional information from customers via email or phone if necessary.
• Researching products and materials
• Accurately entering customer information, leads, item quantities, and other data into customer database and estimation software.
• Use Microsoft Office and industry software.
• Recommends ways to make a product more cost effective or profitable.
• Answers phones and assists with walk in customers.
• Provide support to Project Managers, Office & Accounting staff.
• Ordering materials
• Must be detail oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to read blueprints and have general construction knowledge
Required Experience:
• Experience with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word processing software, spreadsheet software, internet browsers, Construction Estimating Experience.
Useful Skills:
• Basic math proficiency — addition, subtraction, multiply, and divide whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals in all units of measure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication

Responsibilities will include Customer Service, Answering Phones (multiple lines), Emails, Scanning, some Billing & Invoicing, Accepting Payments, Shipping and Receiving, providing support and assistance to Estimators, Managers, and Owners, and Microsoft Office skills. This is a very fast paced, casual construction environment. We are seeking someone who is friendly, with previous office/receptionist experience, who is committed to excellent customer service, a team player, responsible, dependable, detail oriented, and must be proficient in Microsoft Office, be computer savvy, and someone who is looking to make a long-term commitment. Epic Custom Glass is seeking two positions a Lead Glazier/ Glass Installer and a Glazier/ Glass Installer Apprentice to join our crew. The ideal candidate for the Lead Glass Installer/ Glazier will have at least 2 years experience installing glass, cutting, & measuring all aspects of residential glass including mirrors, showers, euro-showers, glass railings, windows, cabinet & tabletop glass, & screens. The Glazier/ Glass Installer Apprentice position is an entry level position that will help a Lead Glazier with all aspects of residential glass installs and learn the trade. Must have some construction experience/ be able to use hand tools and be able to do hard physical labor. We have an awesome crew, so you must be a team player & enjoy working with others. For both positions we are looking for someone who is self motivated, responsible, honest, reliable, and has a clean driving record/ license. The ideal candidates will have a positive attitude, good customer service skills, and good work ethic. This includes being detail oriented and taking pride in your work. We offer many benefits including excellent pay, access to a group health plan, paid holidays, sick days, vacation days, retirement savings plan, weekends off, and steady year around work including overtime. At Epic Custom Glass Safety is our top priority. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic- in an effort to keep our employees and customers safe- we have asked all our employees to stay home for the next 2 weeks. To all of our customers: Due to the Corona Virus we have made the decision to close the Epic Custom Glass showroom/ office for the following 2 weeks for walk in customers. We are trying to reduce contact with the public, starting March 16. We are still open for business and will be installing and measuring based on customer needs/ wants. We are available by phone and email. You can arrange to pick up or drop off things outside. We will be reopening to walk in customers on March 30th. This time frame could change.
