Just a guy running a part-time wood shop from home. I typically do not take on commission work, but

Tip Tuesday time: I always leave myself little reminders around my shop during a project to make sure I do not forget critical measurements or adjustments to measurements.

Having some fun in the workshop today with our lighting setups and our camera. Our subject, is some amazing 8/4 walnut that we will be making some really beefy trivets with.

Some beautiful walnut serving boards, that live edge is some serious wood p**n. Wait...should I have marked this post NSFWW?

Putting final touches on this beautiful dark coffee table that we have named the “Murdered Out” table. This is a preview prior to top coat and leg installation.

Something about making you own tools is soooooo satisfying. We made this dado jig to speed up the batching process for these wood trivets we are building.

01/31/2022

First try on this monster double trivet. It’s made from poplar. We will be using this under our as our .

So I guess I’m in the ukulele repair business now. Picked two of these up for the kids, and the bridge slots are not cut wide enough for the strings.

02/14/2019

I’ve drilled so many pocket holes for this workbench project, I am getting crosseyed!!! These workbenches are turning out sturdy and easy to build though.

02/11/2019

Hmmm, what is that crazy guy doing now? Any guesses? Wrong answers only.

Today’s humility lesson brought to you by a lack of mindfulness during cutting!!! So I got into a zone crosscutting and made a mistake on one cut, which cost me 1 while set of legs. So I am gluing up off cuts to make the legs I need...remember kids, focus on the task at hand, it will save you time, money, and perhaps fingers.

First time in 10 years the wife and I were working the same day, at the same place yesterday. It was nice to see her and get our first uniform picture together!

I know I promised a video, but the batteries died halfway through filming, so I have no footage...sigh. With that said here are some stills I took. It is a circular saw guide for cross cuts. It has 20” capacity. Took a rough cut piece of poplar and an hour to get it dialed in just right. Simply line up the far right edge of the base to your cut line and saw away.

While it’s not a full on drill press fence, this Magswitch Technology base came in handy in speeding up drilling the holes in 20 mounts for our farm table build!!

Rebuilt my tablesaw crosscut sled. This monster is 48x27. The oak slides I used previously broke. I installed some nice aluminum rails from and realigned everything. She is better than ever!

Girls built heart shaped candy boxes today !! They had a blast, though it was hard to get a good pose with both of them in the shot...

Spraying the final coat of finish on the farm table. This Rockler Woodworking and Hardware hvlp sprayer is making a big difference in the amount of dry and prep time between coats. So much quicker than wiping or brushing on and then all the sanding between coats. Spray, wait a day, very light sand, wipe dust off, spray again!

I had originally wanted to build a custom sharpening box out of cedar and have a spot to store my water stones wet. Then I changed my oil one day and realized that the oil pan would be perfect. In fact the spot where you drain your oil filter perfectly holds the stone! What is everyone else using for their water stone set-up?

While the shop is in finishing status and I am trying to not make saw dust I have been conquering maintenance. Cleaning saw blades, waxing tools, sharpening chisels and hand planes, contemplating life choices...you know, usual stuff.

Three coats into the finishing and she is starting to look like art. Between the cold temps, rain, leaky shop roof, and super busy work schedule the finishing is taking much longer than it should. But she will be ready to be placed by next weekend.

to my first shop! It was small, dark, and I constantly tripped breakers, but it got the passion started!

Just doing some initial layout for the medicine cabinet build. It will be surface mounted, about 48”x32”, with a vertically opening mirrored door. I had a bunch of poplar leftover from a table build that I am going to use, but of course....I’m one board short! Looks like a trip to the lumberyard is in my future.

tent is up in the workshop. Don’t worry, it’s not for me, I made sure to take the wife for coffee and a pedicure before we put it up, lol. We are spraying our farm table with the top coat tonight.
