International Pirate Month
Today in history : The Capture of the Pirate Ship Amity
On August 2, 1716, the notorious pirate Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, captured the ship Amity off the coast of the American colonies.
This event was part of the broader wave of piracy in the Caribbean during the early 18th century, a time when Blackbeard was becoming one of the most feared pirates of his day.
August is International Pirate Month.
Let's kick this off with a pirate themed menu.
Starter:
**"Swashbuckler's Shrimp Cocktail"**
- Juicy shrimp served with a zesty cocktail sauce. Present it in a treasure chest or a rustic wooden bowl for a dramatic effect.
Main Course:
**"Captain's Catch Fish & Chips"**
- Crispy battered fish (like cod or haddock) served with hand-cut fries. Serve on a wooden plank or parchment paper for that nautical feel.
- **Alternative:** Grilled swordfish steaks with a lemon butter sauce could replace the fried fish.
Side Dishes:
1. **"Buccaneer's Baked Beans"**
- A hearty mix of beans simmered with bacon, molasses, and spices, served in a small cast-iron skillet.
2. **"Treasure Island Corn on the Cob"**
- Grilled corn on the cob brushed with garlic herb butter and sprinkled with parmesan.
3. **"Pirate's Plunder Salad"**
- A mixed greens salad with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and a citrus vinaigrette. Add some nuts or seeds for crunch.
Dessert:
**"Cannonball Coconut Cream Pie"**
- A creamy coconut custard pie topped with whipped cream and toasted coconut, served in a pie dish decorated with pirate-themed decorations like chocolate coins.
Drinks:
1. **"Grog" (Pirate Punch)**
- A refreshing mixture of rum (or ginger beer for a non-alcoholic version), lime juice, mint, and club soda. Serve it in tankards or coconut cups.
2. **"Mermaid's Blue Lagoon"**
- A blue raspberry lemonade or a blue-colored cocktail with a fun garnish of gummy sharks or fish.
Presentation Tips:
- Use rustic wooden serving platters or dishes.
- Decorate the table with small pirate flags, treasure chests, gold foil coins, and seashells for ambiance.
Enjoy and if you make any of these at all during the month please share photos and use the following hashtags. Would love see it.

It seems good deeds and hard work can't erase years of distrust and hurt.
My message to everyone is don't punish someone for the sins of others. You continue to do that, you will end up with nothing.
Make this week a week of grace and reflection.

On Father's Day, he did shine.
He plundered with flair,
And a beard beyond compare,
And his kids loved him, all the time!
Happy Father's Day to the most feared dads of the sea.
DID YOU KNOW
Former First Lady Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy was a huge fan of pirates that carried into adulthood.
As a child, she had a pirate flag on her wall and in 1965 she threw a pirate themed party for her kids and their friends.
This party included an epic treasure hunt that led to Narragansett Bay with one Senetor Claiborne Pell in full regalia.
You are never too old or too regal to love pirates.

I mean, it's Ministry
With Trail Life Brewing โ I just got recognized as one of their rising fans! ๐
Ever since I became a pirate, I've been asked countless times about the accuracy of "Black Sails." No Hollywood depiction of anything will ever be 100%, but truth be told, I've never it.
I will remedy that today and keep you posted.
Season 1, Episode 1. Here we go.
