A cleaner city is a safer city. Our Citizens On Patrol unit assist Code Compliance with removal of bandit signs. In 2.5 hours 57 signs were removed from multiple intersections. The majority of signs on corners violate city ordinance. Not only do they detract from the beauty of Grand Prairie they are sometimes scams. Removal of the signs adds to the safety of those who live, work and play in Grand Prairie. Together let’s Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful!

Crime Prevention includes commUNITY participation. To help keep your residence secure, keep tree limbs trimmed to 7 feet or taller and bushes no taller than 3 feet. This increases the visibility to the exterior of the house and reduces the criminals ability to hide from public view.

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor arctic cold will keep our Citizens on Patrol and Public Safety Officers from performing their duties. Four of our COP supervisors and our two PSOs were on post at 7:30 this morning with 19 degree temps to ensure the MLK Day parade started off on the right foot. Thank you to these dedicated servants of the public. Your dedication is greatfully appreciated.

Every year, the month of January is dedicated to raising awareness of Crime Stoppers’ successes and motivating more Texans to get involved. In the past year, Crime Stoppers programs across Texas have received nearly 26,000 anonymous tips which led to more than 4,000 arrests, more than $470,000 in rewards paid, and approximately $5.4 million worth of narcotics seized. These impressive results showcase the hard work and resilience of Crime Stoppers volunteers, who continue to be extremely effective in their mission to protect and serve communities across Texas. Selfless Texans from the Panhandle to the Gulf Coast have devoted more than 20,000 volunteer hours to just this cause, in their investment in their community has paved the way for a safer, stronger future.

This past week was 40 hours of training that included classroom instruction, conducting a residential safety assessment, group presentation on the residential safety assessment and a comprehensive exam. There are two more sessions they will be completing this spring. Our volunteers are an asset to Grand Prairie Police and those who live, work or play in the City of Grand Prairie - Municipal Government.
