In every form, nonprofit collaborations result in efficient uses of resources and significant cost savings for the organizations involved. Opal Lee, known as the "Grandmother of Juneteenth"
For decades, Opal Lee campaigned to make Juneteenth a national holiday. She never doubted it would happen one day, but she was determined to see it occur during her lifetime.
In 2021, she got her wish when President Joe Biden signed a bill declaring June 19 a federal holiday to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. It happened in no small part due to Lee’s efforts, earning her the nickname “The Grandmother of Juneteenth,”
Alliance honored Opal with the 2021 Equity Honoree award. This was her Thank You speech.

We feel traumas individually, and we feel them collectively as a community. As has been the case for centuries, many turn to our houses of worship for solace, guidance and healing.
CHURCH LEADERS need guidance, too, as they help congregants process and heal from devastating events. And that is the heart behind this initiative called the Resilient Church Collective.
As part of this program, you will:
* Support faith leaders in healing others, and themselves.
* Gain knowledge on trauma and the signs and symptoms for trauma.
* Make space for self-reflection and personal improvement.
* Be part of a network of churches dedicated to supporting their congregants and the Black communities they’re a part of.
