The Process
Elegant disruption right from home.
Your health is fundamentally connected to who you are, how you move, and who you move with.
A shift in one inherently impacts all three.
You are worth far more than some job title, earning your way in or up, or false sense of belonging.
gangster.
Sometimes you just gotta.
Strike up a conversation with a runner.
Or a photographer,
Business owner,
Or sailor...
..Ask them about their most recent
Marathon,
Photo,
Business startup,
Or favorite venture...
..They pour over
The struggles and
Suffering...
..Connecting to their story
Through that story,
Feeling more alive and hopeful,
In many ways,
For our own story....

Shortly into an appointment, a new client will often throw the disclaimer out there that
'They know they would hurt less if they would lose weight,'
Or
'My doctor told me that I need to lose weight to help out my joints.'
As if they are coming into the situation with a built-in defect or inherent flaw.

What if I told you I ran a marathon
Training the least amount possible?
Would this be a matter of
Efficiency or arrogance?

I tried to run 100 miles.
A goal
Built on hustle.
I trained, trained, trained.
On recovery weeks, I kept burning it.
No rest for the weary.
I made it through 70.
70 miles.
The wheels fell off the bus.
I ran until I couldn't run.
I walked until I couldn't lift a foot.

Imagine that you are a chef.
You earned your culinary degree.
Spent a decade apprenticing, mentoring well-established chefs,
Learning great intricacies of your craft.
You don't provide a meal.
You gift an experience.
Because you love the craft.
All of it.
And then you open your eyes to the rest of the industry.

I started running distance to prove myself to someone.
And then to some people.
Which was really me needing to prove myself to me.
I needed to complete the marathon distance.
Crossing that finish line would be the proof.
And then I did.
And then it was.
And then it wasn't.

"...if you compromise the process, you're an as***le when you start out and you're an as***le when you get back."
-Yvon Chouinard, Founder - Patagonia
If you asked me, the me of 12 years ago,
If I could do my work over the computer,
With only audio and video access to a patient,
Me and my big, fat ego would have said,
'Hell no - there is no possible way for someone to receive quality care and
Progress to the level I can provide if they are not in the room with me, my brain, hands, and fancy diagnostic skills...'
Boy, would I have been wrong.
And yet, I would also have been right.

We can value
Service,
Time,
Results,
Money,
Investments.
Though most of us can share in holding each of those values,
How we hold them,
How we view them
Can vary.

How time outdoors connects them,
And for those that will do everything to honor, protect, and add to the longevity of that gift.

While the experience is tailored to each individual, there is an overlying framework that holds it all together.
You will learn how the body generates power and movement.
You will learn how the body creates stability and control.
You will learn about specific energy leaks where power is lost, movement is wasted, stability is compromised, and control is lacking.
Our work is heading somewhere.
You then learn how to incorporate these concepts within your training routine,
And
How to progress or modify based off of what a particular moment needs.

We are used to approaches that give the impression that people are broken and,
not only a problem, but the problem...
The Process is the approach that not only sees you as not the problem,
But sees you as holding the ability to create growth, change, and healing.

- Give someone a fish and the eat for a day.
But if you teach them how to fish…
“The more I was able to help people understand human mechanics and muscle balance, how to perform specific exercises and tools, the more they were able to benefit; transforming their ENTIRE experience.
Patients off the street were learning the concepts, making changes for themselves…
The more they understood how I did my job, the more they could do for themselves.”

As an isolated incident;
Independent of inner work, and belonging.
I can no longer treat management of workers, teams, and businesses
As if their physical self

Do not matter,

For the sake of the group, company, or profit."

Look to prevent those old aches, pains, tightnesses, and the like.
Learn how you can resolve certain inefficiencies and close the door on those old strains, hobbles, and pulls.
'Aches and Pains Sessions' teach each runner about 3 key elements of running mechanics, learns about the specific needs each individual brings to the table, and then provides essential tools and practical actions to improve form, muscle efficiency, and more!
Put an end to those aches and pains that continue to bother today's performance
and
the risk that could otherwise open the door to injury, lost miles, training, and races.

And there was that time I wrote a book -
Just over a year ago, about 3 months into a quarantine response to a global pandemic, I published my first book, ‘Learning to Unlearn.’
People were able to get the book in their hands and explore. They were able to read about what we have been taught for so long that was starting to break or be exposed as broken in our careers, social interactions, and core beliefs - many of which were brought to the surface as pandemic responses, political ongoings, and social injustices all rose to the surface.
Now you can get the book in your ears as well. The audiobook is available for you today!
Ebook and paperback copies are available as well.
Runners that do not have a constant pain (or are currently pain free) respond far faster and further when compared to runners with a known issue or consistent pain.
Intermittent aches, tightness, and rare pains resolve far more efficiently compared to when they develop into a constant problem.

A strong return to a more clinical setting, I get the opportunity to take 5 runners through a physical therapy visit of sorts.
We will conduct a mini-evaluation for each individual, first learning about each of your aches and pains, how they show up, when, etc. We will then work through some more data collection, gait analysis, and other fact-finding measures as needed. From there, we will cover a foundation of human mechanics, gait, and 3 major events that occur while we run that help us produce speed, efficiency, and stability.
Mini-evaluations, gait assessments, and foundational running mechanics.
From there, we dive into each individual’s scenario, relating their mechanics to the foundational mechanics we just covered, to provide insight and key actionable things for each individual to directly address their situation and make tangible changes that day.
The group dynamics of these workshops opens the doors for each individual to learn from the vantage point of the spotlight,
AND learn from watching and learning from how others work through their own situations.

Aches after a certain distance?
Pains the day after a longer run of faster workout?
Is there pain after a certain distance one day, but no pain any other run or day of the week?
Does an ache or ‘hot spot’ present at a certain pace, but is otherwise nonexistent?
Is there a nagging tension, tightness, or cramping in the same spot, but only sometimes?
Join me and up to 4 other fellow runners as we virtually gather to work through these types of problems and more.

Whether we know it or not, we are disconnected and searching more than ever. Learning to Unlearn traverses observations and perspectives regarding the human condition; how culture, technology, and conventional norms are feeding the dis-integration of who we have become, and who we actually are.
We all have this gift, this desire that connects us to something far larger; and sharing our gift from this generative foundation only adds to the richness of our narrative.
It is Adam's hope that this book gives us the opportunity to deconstruct biases and conventional norms that are enveloping our truer essence, so that we may rediscover that we have what we have been searching for the whole time.
The process of integration is just that: a continual ongoing ever-becoming participation in the natural rhythm of our universe and universal essence. And we have the opportunity to start Learning to Unlearn...
