From some serious thunderstorms, lightning, torrential downpours and hrs of delays to blue skies, crazy hot and pure sunshine, what a crazy weekend for States! No Repeat Gold for these Seniors, but we didn’t get struck by lightening either, so I’d say that’s a win!! So proud of the FHN Rowing team! This was an extremely rough season with all the chaos and coaching issues, but the kids still showed up and they still gave it their all!! Well Done FHN Rowing!!

For those who didn’t know my industry (esthetics) has been closed down since November 18 along with all the restaurants and bars.
Why you ask??? Because you have to remove your mask to receive a facial treatment.

It’s been a stressful few months following a terrible 2020, but I’m looking forward to brighter days!! Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout all of this! I recently wrote a letter to Governor Whitmer who like many trusted at the beginning of this pandemic.

Governor Whitmer,

My name is Christina Kitchen and I own a small esthetic salon SOAK BY CK in Cascade Michigan. I would like the chance to voice some concerns I have with the recent mandate that has been in place since November 18th 2020. While I understand the basis for this decision I do not believe that all industries should be lumped together when determining these mandates.

How is SOAK BY CK different...
I am not a big spa or salon, I work as a solo esthetician.
I’ve worked as a medical aesthetician so I am extremely well versed on how to safety give a treatment and have prided myself on meeting and exceeding every sanitation code for our industry.
I have always worn a mask, gloves, scrubs and tech glasses or a shield and dispose of everything used in a service. All equipment is wiped down with Barbacide and sterilized.
I have always been Appointment Only.
I have not had to change my protocols AT ALL since Covid! Yet, here I am still not working after 10 weeks! That’s following the previous 13 week shutdown. That’s 6 1/2 months!

My heart goes out to all the restaurants, bars and small businesses that are still struggling, because I’m right there with them. It’s been frustrating, beyond stressful and downright disappointing to watch the mandate extensions week after week. To know how hard you’ve worked to get your dream up and going just to have your livelihood destroyed in less than a year. Even after you have done the right thing and followed every mandate and protocol put in place to keep other people safe you are watching your own business get shut down anyway. It takes its toll on every part of your life, mentally and physically. I am not suggesting we throw out all mandates and just rip our masks off, so please hear me out.
Restaurants have done a hell of a job at making adjustments to keep people safe and yet they are closed down even though Meijer, Target, Costco, Lowes, Sam’s, etc... are packed every day of the week some people wearing masks, some not and no one monitoring it. Half the gas stations around town aren’t even requiring their employees to wear a mask let alone a patron. High school athletes wearing full pads and masks are not allowed to play a sport, yet the college and professional teams are all playing and don’t even wear a mask most of the game. This includes our own Lions and Redwings! Yet, restaurants, sole proprietors and high school athletes wearing masks are the super spreaders? I will not insult your intelligence because I truly believe in the beginning you were trying to do what was best for the Michiganders, however like many I now have doubts about your ability to lead. Are you really doing what is best for Michiganders or do you just want to lead the country by example to promote your own status. I am not a democrat or a republican. I am an independent and I voted for a governor who wanted to do right by Michiganders, not a governor that just wanted to make a name for herself at the expense of her fellow Michiganders. I trusted that governor who wanted to make changes for the better for All Michiganders. I understand in the beginning no one knew what to do or what was the right way to handle the pandemic, but now we do and we know what needs to be done to keep each other safe.

All I am suggesting is that we learn from this and try to do better in the future! Starting at the top. Starting with you Governor Whitmer. Realize that not EVERY place of business, person or athlete can be lumped into ONE category! We have played by all the rules, we have followed all the mandates, we have kept people safe at the expense of our businesses, hopes and dreams. Now I am asking you give to give us the same chance to prove we can do what right to keep people safe the same way you are expecting us to trust you. You want to lead by example to the rest of the country on how you protected Michiganders from Covid? How about you lead by example and NOW show the rest of the country how you can help all the small Michigan businesses that have suffered and are still suffering to get back up and running! Stop promising money that never reaches us and instead give us a chance to show that we can successfully eat in our restaurants, play a high school sports, attend classes in person, or even
get a simple facial safely! Help to restore our faith in people and help us heal mentally!
