Let me introduce you to Hillary!👋🏾

With her permission, I’m EXCITED to share her with you all.

When Hillary first came to see me, she was experiencing unevenness, and breakage throughout her hair due to a few things but mainly “protective styles” that weren’t so protective (being applied incorrectly). This lead to thinning/hair loss around her edges, and severe breakage throughout her hair.

We tried to remedy the situation by properly applying protective styles in hopes that with significantly less traction, and proper care, that her hair would start to recover. Unfortunately things got worse.

As a stylist, it’s never easy to tell a woman ,” I think you should shave your head and start fresh😅), that can be a hard pill to swallow. Because of the severity of the situation, that is what we did.

Now don’t be scared😂… this is not the solution for everyone! I only suggest this if I feel it is absolutely necessary.

I’m so incredibly proud of Hillary. She came into the salon with a very optimistic attitude, and I’m grateful she trusted me with her hair. She was ready to see change, and embraced this step with such grace although I know it was different, and hard.

We shaved her head beginning of 2020, and LOVED her hair back to life. It brings such pride and joy to see how much progress she’s (Hillary, and Amagdala(her hairs name❤️) have made).

I recommended that she come in once weekly to start for :

➰Scalp Massage
➰And for me to monitor every inch of growth to ensure her hair was properly moisturized as this was a very sensitive stage
➰I recommended a dermatologist (a woman with curls herself!) to diagnose what was going on with hair loss, in addition to my care

We’ve seen a TREMENDOUS amount of growth in the last 3 years🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

New clients often ask ,”why do I need to prep my hair for a curly cut before coming into the salon if you’re going to wash my curls anyway?”

GREAT Question❗️

ANSWER:⬇️⬇️

Prepping the hair correctly for a is the key to ensuring the accuracy of the cut (which is typically done prior to the styling service(curl Makeover).

To simplify even more, this simply means:

➰wash & style your curls 24 hours prior to your appointment (using minimal product)

➰Come to the salon with your curls:

•ABSOLUTELY NO PONYTAILS ❌
(Ponytails distort the curls)

•DOWN(curls out & free)☑️

•DRY(completely dry☑️

•DETANGLED (Free of snags, and knots)☑️

If you’re a first time client and not confident with prep, we provide this service! Just let us know upon booking and we can add prep to your appointment bundle😊

What can you expect when you come into the salon for your appointment?

•Enter, hang up coat, get situated in the styling chair

•Request coffee, a latte, choose from a variety of tea options, or water( I’m a part time 😄☕️)

•Consultation time! New clients(this portion of the appointment can take approximately 15 minutes. We walk through hair history, questions, concerns, hair goals, goals for this appointment). Returning client consultations typically take about 5 mins( I check in to see how their hair has done since last seeing them, and answer any questions they have before proceeding with the appointment).

•Proceed with appointment while you sip your beverage of choice, and take a nap under the dryer😴

2. New clients MUST schedule either a CONSULTATION, or NEW CLIENT BUNDLE

3. WAIT for a response through EMAIL or CALL. Your appointment will either be confirmed or denied. If denied, you most likely selected the incorrect service. Don’t worry! Melinda or myself will contact you to get you scheduled appropriately.

My name is Cindy J Beresford. I’m a proud Canadian born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Im a Curl Specialist, Charcuterie Guru, and much more.

I’ve worked with curls since age 14. From my parents basement, the school bathroom, and everywhere I could, I braided and styled beautiful manes.

I attended the West Michigan college of barbering & beauty. Licensed as a cosmetologist in 2010.

This year makes 22 years of consistently working with curls. I’ve invested my heart, soul, energy, resources, my WHOLE life into growing as a stylist, and building my business-The Rise Salon LLC. I’m extremely proud of myself.

The Rise Salon is a Specialty salon where I work solely with all curl types, and clients of all ethnicities.

What is a Curl Specialist? A licensed cosmetologist who chooses to work specifically with Curls. In addition to countless hours of personal training and hands on experience, I attended the Deva Curl academy in NYC, and continue to educate myself, and receive additional training to stay current within the industry.

I absolutely love owning a specialty salon because of the experience I can offer my clients. It’s an elevated salon experience as far as skill, education, and atmosphere.

To some, “doing hair “ doesn’t bring much value, but I’m honored to experience wonderful individuals who grace my chair, and be used to pour into them as well not only helping to transform the physical (hair), but the soul. It has been a true privilege to experience it all for so many years.

My journey has had ups and downs, but one thing I know is that God built me for this. I’ve never felt more called to anything in this life aside from my relationship with God.

I’m beyond blessed to know my calling and walk confidently in it. I once struggled with comparison. I learned over time however that my offerings are unique, and more than sufficient. Where you lack confidence, EDUCATE YOURSELF!

4. Sit with me and chat for consultation 😊 This is YOUR time. We discuss your , , and i answer any questions or concerns you may have before diving into styling

5. is done with the hair DRY & CURLY as shown in the pictures attached ✂️

6. Curl Makeover is done in the shampoo bowl. This is a personalized wash day tutorial. I walk you though how to properly cleanse, condition, apply products, and how to successfully walk through this process on your own outside of the salon!

6. Walk through salon protocol for future salon visits

7. Get you conveniently rescheduled before you leave for your next salon visit!

I find GREAT joy in teaching clients how to properly define their curls. I decided to call the Curl Makeover service exactly that because of the constant reactions of the women and men in my chair as they viewed the process steps and the final results of the service. It reminds of makeover shows and people’s reactions and I absolutely adore it!

The weather’s getting colder🥶. How can we help support through this transition to combat dryness? Nothing drastic.

1. I suggest using a tad bit more leave in conditioner and Styling cream or gel than usual and see if that helps.

2. - For & textures..

*soak your hair while dry, dirty in extra virgin olive oil

*detangle with a wide tooth comb

*twist each section in a two strand twist for manageability/softness

*put on a plastic cap, let sit on for a few hours before your wash day process.

And viola! A few extra steps to help combat dryness.
