While I have thoughts on it; if That Early Bird opened up at night what should we focus on? What is Eastown missing? There are no wrong answers (except pizza. Jeez how many more pizza places does this neighborhood need ?)

That Earlybird will be staying up late for shop-hop! We are hosting a variety of amazing local artists including ceramics, fiber and painting. You’ll find gifts for all ages and can warm up with snacks before hopping on the trolley right outside.
We are so excited for this fun festive night!

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Joo Yun H. Preece (aka Jo) is a violinist with the Grand Rapids Symphony. She is a lifelong visual arts appreciator, and is honored to have her work live out in the community. She is very fond of working with fibers and papers. When she is not performing music or working on her visual art projects, you can find her supporting the Green Team efforts at her daughter’s school and cultivating her yard with her son. This is Jo’s very first art exhibit.

ABOUT THE ART
During the COVID-19 pandemic, my daughter was in Children’s House. As we signed on each day to ‘attend’ zoom school, her Montessori certified teacher encouraged all of the students to draw as she guided the kids with curriculum. As my daughter drew, these confident and whimsical girls kept her company during such an artificial process. They became her zoom school companions. I wanted to give respect and a sense of closure to that phase in our recent past and took inspiration from the original drawings. I hope they will accompany others as they navigate through life. To honor the teachers who still guide our little ones, I’m offering a 25% discount to any GRPS teacher who’s interested in purchasing a Zoom Girl.

Spinning & Weaving
Join us for a very simple demonstration and try-out of textile arts. Ever wanted to try creating yarn? This class will introduce simple spinning methods on drop spindles. We will work with Cheviot and Scottish Blackface fleece and look at methods of silk spinning. This is a very simple introduction to using raw fiber. Ages 10 and up

Join us to create a Mother's Day Hat for your mom, auntie, sister or friend! We will create unique hat apparell with paper, fabric, and feathers. Explore collage and be ready for Mother's Day!

Join art teacher Elizabeth for an easy origami class in puppet making.Create a 3-D original puppet in paper. Add collage to decorate. Create with your little artists! All ages welcome!

Paint a beatiful silk scarf to take home. Learn techniques from Elizabeth, our resident art teacher extrordinaire.
