Another quilting finish
I had 36" of backing left from morning quilting, so I sewed on more gray backing and popped this on the frame with zipper leaders.
Trimming this up and it making the binding. Then it goes on the someday really finished department ready for another day for the real finish
Spilled Ink quilt design

Finishing time. So - I pulled out my new machine that I have had for months and hadn't turned on. (Lots of business trips. )
My Kaffe Fassett Studio BERNINA USA 475. I traded in a vintage BERNINA towards this.
The reason(s)?
Bigger Bobbin - 70% more
Great lighting
Lighter weight
Stitch selection
Travel case
5.5 mm stitch width. That means feed dogs that are closer, giving me the best straight stitch
Tip. When a machine model ends in 5, it's a 5.5mm machine.
Darn cute
Lucky me!
I am heading home from Once Upon A Quilt 's annual December retreat. Such fun and happiness.
I was in the embroidery room with Zundt Design , Urban Zundt and Tracey Sims. I have heard of their designs, but got to see them in person. And, we learned about Urban's multi-generational tie to embroidery stitching and design. From hand cranked machines to our modern embroidery machines.
Tracey's paintings are the foundation of the designs. Classes stitched out on an OESD - Oklahoma Embroidery Supply & Design pillow blank then painted to highlight the embroidery.
My friend Elisa Milano taught overlocker classes. At the store she got to see the official carriage of OUAQ
Here's an update to my question last night.
I figured out the block wasn't strip pieced. I only had to make two complete blocks because I took off the bottom row, added the two blocks I made and sewed the row to the side.
Now - instead of 55 x 88, I will have 66x77. Plenty of quilt for a couch or chair and a cold day.
Now do I add a small border? That or stitch around the entire edge. Seams without backstitching are not a longarmers friend.
To explain. I didn't start this quilt. But I am finishing it. Thus needing to figure out piecing and layout.
This quilt is currently 56x90 which makes no sense to me. So, I was going to add another row to increase the width. I measured and cut new strips, but this is not trimming to a perfect 6", and I get waste on cutting.
Do any of you brilliant quilters know what pattern this is? I brought a bunch of my sister in law's books home, and thought it might be a GE design, but I'm not finding what I need.
Help
I'm figuring out this is not strip pieced. If I cut a dark block on half and sew on a light strip, I won't waste so much fabric. Trims right up
A great sale for my friends with Q-matic or any other automation system on a longarm. Add designs to your longarm quilting collection.
Be sure you create an account. I'm away from my machine, but if I try to buy a design I already own the website will remind me.
They generously offer many lovely free designs too.

The ONLY place to get details is at Bonnie's blog, which you can reach by clicking the picture below
There is a group page where people share their color selections or progress, but there are NO instructions there. 2023 Bonnie Hunter Mystery . Again, head to Bonnie's blog. In February, the pattern will be available for sale.
Or, you could visit her blog weekly and download the instructions for reference or if you can't join the sewalong right now.
For AccuQuilt owners, a fun game is figuring out which dies can be used to cut out the pieces. If you figure this out, you can't post it, because we promise to not post all sizes, which, again, are available on Bonnie's blog.
If you do participate, I would love to see your progress!

Thanksgiving for two today as I'm lucky to be with my daughter in Colorado. That leaves time for stitching this morning.
Last night I finished another Modernistic Stars Quilt Along by Paper Pieces® and this morning I am selecting my threads from my WonderFil Specialty Threads prewound DecoBob. The lid lifts off, keeping the bobbins in place and so easy to switch out for each block.
I am thankful for my sewing community that has created friends from so many places. Stitching soothes my soul.
Be safe if traveling.
Here's an exciting opportunity.

This book is full of so many practical fit tips. I'm excited to use this as I build on the sloper/toile I created last week
When I finish a quilt I love unzipping the zipper leaders and seeing the quilt as a whole. Not just rows rotating on my frame.
The quilt top take on form, straightens out, and becomes Love to make someone warm.
The pattern for this quilt took a lot of planning. I have no idea what the pattern name is.
From a casual easy flowing 'Ripples' to 'Heather' by My Creative Stitches by Christy Dillon .
A lot of detail in the quilting and prints. But it all works. Using Hab+Dash by Fil-Tec Glide 60. My favorite. Create texture and the gray seems to be the shadow in the quilting line.
I loaded this quilt before leaving for a week. With my BERNINA, I can save my favorite thread settings. I came home. Picked a design. Told my machine she was loaded with Glide 60 - and away we went!
This looser design means a softer snuggle quilt
What a day. This year I ordered a French European Inc. dress form, and we (Me and the dress form) left the house around 6 am to go to class with Joe Vecchiarelli at Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Novi
Today I added my curves to the form so I can fit patterns myself in my body double. And, we draped with muslin then created a sloper for a bodice.
Joe works with Dancing with the Stars, Project Runway, Disney and more. His knowledge of pattern fitting is fabulous.
Tomorrow I'm very happy I got into his draping class that will be held after the show closes.
I started with garments, and I would love to be able to make custom pieces that fit beautifully. My problem always was that I can fit others, but not myself. Hard to see behind yourself
This is cool.

Welcome to Quilt Festival!
Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville has announced this year's mystery quilt!! Well - the first clue.
For now we will get color info and yardage in preparation for clues that start on Black Friday in November. I just finished a blue quilt so I already see using greens. That's allowed.
Even if you don't sew along, download the clues so you have them for later. I have a friend who figures out how we can use our AccuQuilt , but we can't post which dies, because you have to be part of the group to get the free clues and sizes to cut.
This year's quilt is based on her trip to Vietnam. Hmmmm . . .

I just finished listening to How to Stitch an American Dream. The story of Missouri Star Quilt Company .
When Jenny Doan is in a quilt show I know it! You hear the murmurs and people heading towards their booth.
My husband's Aunt Mary introduced me to Jenny through her videos. They were gathered to play Pedro, and knowing I am clueless on card games, Mary suggested I look up their videos.
While the family is wildly successful now, they achieved this success through hard work and strong family ties.
I found the audiobook on Hoopla through my local library system. Go libraries!
I started this Bloom quilt made of Amanda Murphy Design fabric by Benartex last year. Thanks to zipper leaders on my BERNINA Longarm, I could pull the quilt off when customer quilts came in.
Then . . . perhaps I overlooked the opportunity to get this quilt back on the frame. Well, I have a new cutting table coming and I know I need to organize and clean up.
A year later I had a different approach to the 46" square center. I picked a feather design and extended it to 48". Sent the design to Art and Stitch. Eliminated some nodes and reshaped others to form complete feathers.
The whole project was laid out in advance in BERNINA Q-Matic and rulerwork was added.
Still looking for the direct line to the official Binding Fairy
Flying into my third city on this trip and wondering whoo will I see at Topstitch BERNINA in Barnett, MO Friday and Saturday?
Very little stitching was done the last few days as I visited my daughter and we got her garden ready for winter.
I like this Modernistic Stars Quilt Along by Paper Pieces® block. So fun to see the owls featured from Tula Pink Moon Garden fabrics.
A finished block
Lots of prep in the hotel last night as I glued up papers for a Modernistic Stars Quilt Along by Paper Pieces® block.
Tonight I'm stitching on an almost finished block. Remember that beautiful selection of DecoBob WonderFil Specialty Threads gifted me as a teacher for American Quilter's Society ? I wound most of the colors onto small bobbins for easy travel. The box is from hardware sold through ByAnnie.com and Patterns By Annie . Six colors in one small flat box!! The other box has my silver thimble an M class bobbin.
Love being able to work on quilts in hotel rooms.
Staying in downtown Wichita, Kansas for quilting events with Midwest Sewing Center . Great weather and a cute city made for a fun art walk through town last night.
I so appreciate public art. Last week I was in Europe where kids see art everywhere.
And if you're in Kansas, BBQ is a logical dinner choice. Bite Me BBQ .
This little tin box almost led me into buying an expensive tin of some kind of candy. But - my carry on was full.
Do you have a favorite little container you turned into a portable sewing kit?
Working with angles on Modernistic Stars Quilt Along by Paper Pieces® . So I lay out the pieces to match. Flip. Clip.
Time to stitch!
WonderFil Specialty Threads gave all the teachers at American Quilter's Society Grand Rapids this box of DecoBob threads!!!!!!!!
Can you see how perfect these colors are with Tula Pink Moon Garden and my Modernistic Stars Quilt Along by Paper Pieces®
The colors are brought together by Pride and Joy Quilting - Verushcka Zarate.
DecoBob is 80 wt cottonized polyester.
Thank you Wonderfil!!!
Another cute baby quilt made by Ann.
We took the circles quilting design and reduced it by 50% for much smaller quilting. A fun idea to continue the theme of dots from the fabric
Wrinkled batting at the end of the roll or out of the package? Pull out your Laurastar Lift on the Steam Cart and you can roll over to your frame and get beautiful flat batting
Now that the Tula Sunrise center is done, time to change up my travel quilt.
Finally committing to Modernistic Stars Quilt Along by Paper Pieces®
Fussy cutting is key to this quilt. One of those diamonds is getting reglued for a better match
I have worked the Anniversary events for BERNINA USA's top three dealers the last couple of months and I can tell you their secret. They work very hard and they really appreciate their customers. All of them understand their customers are an extension of their family business.
As you look for a sewing machine dealership, don't just compare prices. Compare the vibe you get in the store. Ask about training after the sale. What kind of classes do they offer? You are buying all of that along with a machine. Your local dealer might not be in the top three because of volume, but you can also get all of these wonderful services
I didn't think to take a picture in class today with my 17 new English Paper Piecing friends. So fun to see smiles and hear laughter as they learned a new skill or honed a current one.
I was able to learn something from a student as well!
The majority of people were brand new to EPP.
Thank you to my class angel, Adrienne.
A fun day putting together kits for the English Paper Piecing Class at American Quilter's Society Grand Rapids on Thursday, September 14. 8:30 am - 4
