The Emmanuel team hosted a fun patient wish today, Peterpalooza! A jam session and pizza party for a lifelong lover of music, and self taught harmonica player, Peter Paolini. Local blues guitarist Chris Bota joined Miranda Eden, Emmanuel’s music therapist, to create music – and memories – for Peter, his family and friends. Peter picked up his harmonica and joined in on several songs, including a few with family members. Guests enjoyed pizza from Chicago deep-dish experts Lou Malnati’s, and Carrot cake – Peter’s favorite – rounded out the meal.

Days like this mean more living for patients like Peter. Thank you 13 On Your Side, for sharing the sweet story here. https://www.wzzm13.com/article/features/hospice-patients-wish-fulfilled-with-blues-jam-session-surrounded-by-family/69-a3fe601e-53ba-4e53-86ef-e5770c483d89

A sweet story from Joan Blessings, Emmanuel Hospice Licensed Massage Therapist: Today, June and I shared a Chinese lunch together. As we sat down, she clasped her hands and prayed quietly, not forgetting to include a blessing for our meal. With each bite she took, a genuine joy lit up her face. "I don't deserve this," she kept saying. But I insisted, "You only turn 98 once in your life! You absolutely deserve this."

June's eyes welled up with tears of happiness. She will be celebrating three more times this week, each occasion a testament to a life well-lived. In that moment, over our meal, I realized how much these simple gestures meant to her—moments of shared joy and gratitude that touched her deeply.

We are so lucky to be able to care for our patients in so many ways. Sometimes a simple meal is all it takes to make the day "More About Living" for an Emmanuel Hospice patient!
