FUNNY CAR NATIONALS ANCHORS 2022 SCHEDULE AT US 131
Northern Nationals, NMRA/NMCA Power Festival, SFG Half-Million also on Calendar

MARTIN, Mich. – An ambitious 2022 schedule featuring the 18th annual Funny Car Nationals, the seven-day SFG Half-Million bracket race, the US 131 Northern Nationals and the NMRA/NMCA Power Festival was announced Monday by Jason Peterson, VP of Operations of Michigan’s fastest track.

The track will open in April with a host of test-and-tune sessions including alternating “Sticky Sunday” and “Slick Sunday” events for radial tire vehicles and slick tire vehicles, respectively.

We try to listen to our racers and adapt what we do to give them the best chance of enjoying their time here at US 131,” Peterson said. “We have a lot of variety in this schedule and I think that’s a good thing.”

Fans will get a big dose of nitromethane at the US 131 Northern Nationals (Aug. 5-6) and the Funny Car Nationals (Sept. 9-10) while the NMRA/NMCA race (July 21-24) will shine the spotlight on Pro Modifieds and the COPO Camaros, Cobra Jet Mustangs, Hellcat and Demon Challengers that are the new face of American muscle cars.

Before either of those races, though, there is a May 12-13 event in the FAST series (Fast Appearing Street Tire) for the sport’s original muscle cars, those built in the U.S. from 1955 through 1979 equipped with at least a four-barrel V8 “and other factory-installed equipment that promotes a high-performance image.”

Once again anchoring the entire schedule will be the Lane Automotive Bracket Series. A pair of “Slick Sunday” events in April and May will be followed on Saturday, May 7, by the first of the 18 Lane Series events that will determine track champions in Top ET, Modified, Street and three Jr. Dragster classes.

Memorial Day weekend will mark the beginning of the track’s “busy season” which will run through mid-September when it plays host to the 18th annual Super Sled/Super Bike Shootout (Sept. 16-18) and the annual IHRA Thunder Division Team Finals (Sept. 22-25).

First big race of the season will be the Racer Appreciation Memorial Weekend bracket championships featuring three days of racing for Lane Bracket Series points and a cash purse including $2,500 to the daily winners in Top ET and Modified on Saturday, $3000 on Sunday and normal payout on Monday.

The Import vs. Domestic shootout returns in June for the fifth time followed by 2nd annual Street Car Takeover (June 17-18) and then 11 straight days of bracket racing starting with the US 131 Micro Million (June 23-26) and concluding with the SFG Half-Million (June 27-July 3).

In July, the 15th annual Summer Bug Run, featuring everything VW and open to all German makes (July 17 ), will be followed by the NMRA/NMCA Power Festival (July 21-24) and the ninth annual Bottom Bulb Bash and Jr. Dragster Bonanza (July 28-31).
