Cultured Palate- Cubanos y Mas

Family recipe, homestyle Cuban flavor made from organic and natural ingredients.

When I decided to close the restaurant, I didn’t want just anyone taking over the space. I’m very happy about who did!
My friends Michelle, Curtis and Jeff will be opening The District. They will be:

“…bringing the public amazing artisanal sandwiches on as well as signature soups, salads and more!
We will have a house made gluten free bread as well for all my gluten free friends and a lot of gluten free menu items! Don’t miss the gluten free biscuits and gravy and our all day Sunday brunch!
Projected opening date is October 4th, 2024!
Stay tuned!!!!!!”

UPDATE: Found out today, 8/19, that I have COVID. Seriously!!!🙄 At least it just feels like a cold and nothing worse.

Hello everyone!
It’s taken me this long to post since closing the restaurant. It’s definitely been an emotional roller coaster ride. I’ve included pictures of friends/customers, our last day open with Salsa dancing, packing things up, handing over the keys to those taking over the space, etc. (Will share more later) I will add a description to some of the pictures soon.
A few things have happened since closing such as one of my sons moving to London to go to college: another biggie. Also, I found out today that I got the lead in Barnstormer’s play “Gaslight “. Many of you know I haven’t been in a show in 10 years. I’m so excited to be doing theatre again. Definitely helps.
Thanks again for all of your love and support through the years! Blessings always ❤️

Hello everyone! I’m still in Tucson dealing with some heavy family stuff and appreciate prayers.
This memory popped up and I thought I’d share. 7 years. We officially opened the end of July, Back to the 50’s. Seems appropriate that we will be closing then, too. 7 is the number of completion.

06/22/2024

Cultured Palate will be closed this evening, Saturday, June 22 and will reopen Friday July 5 at 12pm as I (Angela) am going to be out of town for family reasons. Thank you!

This is so hard. It was easier when I put this on my personal page:

I officially have no employees. The two previous employees ghosted me and left me hanging. Now my last employee has crossed the line. Can’t seem to find good, integrous employees anymore. That and inconsistency with business (especially during the winter) I’m having to let the restaurant go. I’ll cry my eyes out walking away, but it is what it is. Looks like God is closing the door. Not seeing my great customers is going to be so hard.

I plan on working through July with or without employees, but I’ll be closed next week and will reopen Wednesday, July 4th because I am going to Tucson for family reasons.

More happy customers.😊 The gentleman got a Completa Keto bowl: pork, chicken, beef, mojo onions, cheese, extra French style green beans, house slaw, avocado and tomatoes. He loved the flavors and they bought some sofrito and pollo marinade so they can make carne and pollo at home.

It’s First Friday in downtown Grants Pass!
There have been a few requests for Ropa Vieja, so that will be our special as well as Strawberry Rhubarb Cheesecake.😊

Love my customers!
This was a Completa Mess-terpiece with Carne only and double meat. We’re talking 15 ounces of Cuban style Carne Asada with all the veggies right on top: French style green beans in a vinaigrette, House slaw(citrus based), avocados and tomatoes. It’s one of our secret menu items that’s becoming not so secret anymore.😊

Dominic celebrating his birthday the right way: flan, rum cake, a cafecito and dominoes with family! 😊 Oh, and a Happy Birthday song the way Abuelo sings it. 😉

I LOVE it when old cars park outside the restaurant!🥰

When new customers come in to Cultured Palate, I like to recommend sharing the Cubano and the Completa with a side of aguacate. I call it being Cubanized Palate style. And when they get a mojito, too, it’s a sealed deal!!😁

Cultured Palate will be doing something special this First Friday in Downtown Grants Pass. Redwood Elementary school has been raising funds for an inclusive, all-abilities playground. There will be a table outside with information and a portion of sales that evening will be donated.
Our special this Friday will be the popular national dish of Cuba:
Ropa Vieja.

One of our regulars brought some family to Cultured Palate. They had never tried Cuban food. Now they are officially “Cubanized”.😋

Another pretty flower on the bottom of the flan pan that appears in the caramel after it cools. These are my little blessings that warm my heart when making Tía Elsa’s flan.😊
Do you see it?

This was the last day of the Say Cheese! fundraiser. Marv wanted a sheet of Grilled Cheesecakes(yep, he liked them that much) and this was a couple’s night out for their anniversary.😊 Great way to end March!

We still have some family recipe Caldo Gallego. I made a huge pot cuz I wanted some for myself and the family. Also, saving some for a friend. 😊This is one of those “If you know: You Know!” kinda dishes”

Tomorrow is First Friday Alive at Five in downtown Grants Pass.
Cultured Palate will be offering family recipe Cuban Caldo Gallego (Cuban White Bean Soup) with white beans, smoked ham, chorizo and vegetables. It's the last hearty soup of the cold weather season. Also, by request, our cheesecake of the month will be our Maduro (Sweet Plantain) Cheesecake.
We have, as well, some new wines from Dos Mariposas Vineyards that are not served anywhere else in Grants pass: Pinotage, Chenin Blanc and their red blend Painted Lady.

I’m not sure how many of you know, but I’ve been involved with the wine industry for over 20 years and I will not carry a wine if it’s already in Grants Pass. We have local and Latin wines from Spain, Argentina, Chile, etc.
I love sharing wines from vineyards that no one knows about!😊
On that note, let me introduce you to Dos Mariposas. It’s a hidden gem right here in the Rogue Valley. I brought in 3 of their wines and will be bringing in more.
Two are South African grapes:
Pinotage and Chenin Blanc.
I, also, brought in a Red Blend called Painted Lady which is a nice blend of Syrah and Merlot.

He’s the culture. I’m the palate.

Established in 2017.

Cultured Palate started during Back to the Fifties weekend in Summer of 2017. However, Jorge and I’s culinary journey started back in 1987 when he and I first met. He introduced me to the wonders of Cuban cuisine and over the years I enhanced those family recipes and brought the flavors out a little more. Jorge and our twins started selling Cuban food at our local growers market years ago while I continued to work in the restaurant/wine industry. God opened the door for us to have our own business, thus Cultured Palate was born!
