Mike and Ali Cunningham were married and settled in Grayslake in 2012, where Mike worked in addiction counseling. Their son Rafael, born prematurely in 2017, suffered significant health challenges, including quadriplegia and severe cognitive delays, Mike left his job to become his primary caregiver. Despite these hardships, they have managed to improve Rafael’s condition, and he's grown into a happy child.

Their lives recently took another hit when Mike has been suddenly diagnosed with leukemia in January 2024, leading to his hospitalization in Chicago, while Ali has stayed in Grayslake to care for Rafael. With no clear prognosis their future is very uncertain.
