An epic event at Steppingstone Park. Thousands of locals caught the vibe as thrilled the crowd. Great Neck is always a hot spot and tonight our town was lit. The energy was palpable!! 🔥 🔥🔥

What a unique space in our community, unparalleled for decades. How lucky are we?

Another oldie, but such a goodie! This pic features Middle Neck Road heading North. “Elsie Gorin” took up 2 prime corner retail spaces, “The Plant Lady” and just look at the 1960s/ 70’s? vehicles of that era. What’s more- the iconic Grace Building pre-Jester was for sale! Imagine.

Long Island Motor Parkway circa 1908. If you look closely, you can see the big city in the distance. That means this lonely traveler was heading East, towards Great Neck.

Did You Know🤔
Andy Kaufman was the oldest of three children and was raised in Great Neck, NY. He had his bar mitzvah in 1962 at Temple Beth El and graduated from Great Neck North in 1967. Andy got his start in the entertainment business doing stand up comedy and got his break when he appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1975. This led to the role of Latke Gravas on the sitcom Taxi, a role he received Golden Globe award nominations for in 1979 and 1981. Sadly, he passed away on May 16, 1984 at the age of just 35 but will always be remembered for the various personas he created.

Flashback : Can you name the spot? The decade? The year?
Things: The easily identifiable rooflines. Our town has changed, evolved. Our retail sector down Middle Neck Rd and the tertiary streets off our main drag has too. Not as much variety, too many of this, not enough of that. Fewer of us are strolling as a pastime. .
Place & People: What hasn’t changed? Our proximity to the big city. Our melting pot of different cultures dating back to the Eighties. Our residents’ emphasis on family and education, whether our old timers, or our newcomers. Our collective care of our fine homes. Our love of the abundance of our bucolic parks, our library system. Great Neck is the only place for many.

Things come and go. Meanwhile, Our people live and love at the crossroads of the American Dream.

The Squire Theatre
Turning the Page— Thankful ( beyond) for the memories at this local multi-generational landmark. So many of us growing up in the 80’s through 2000’s can recall good times in town, around and about the Squire. Movies. Birthday parties. Hangouts. The new space will be “Lounge X” - with high hopes for a new kind of hang out/ hot spot featuring golf-centric entertainment and other types of modern events.
