I laugh when I hear some orthodontists say they "NEVER have teeth extracted for orthodontic treatment"... Like it's a badge of honor. While not our first choice, sometimes removal of teeth is necessary to allow the remaining teeth to be placed in the ideal position not only esthetically, but also for health and stability. The roots of teeth should be centered in the alveolar bone. Forcing severely crowded teeth into deficient alveolar bone (the bone that houses the teeth), will have the teeth at the edge or THROUGH the outer surface of the bone, risking recession mobility and periodontal issues for a lifetime. When treated properly, extracted teeth are never missed... And the result is stable and beautiful!

It was a very exciting weekend in NOLA at the AAO meeting, being a part of Solventum Orthodontics ics (formerly 3M Orthodontics) unveiling their newest innovation, which takes Clarity Aligners to a level where they stand alone. "Precision Grip Attachments" are 3D printed and provide a superior level of precision and efficiency! It was great having my team there as well to support me (and to have some fun too 😁).

Be aware if you are told your child is "tongue-tied" and needs a surgical procedure to correct it!

Great Article in the NY Times. Personally I agree. I see WAY too many young patients where parents are told their child has a "tongue tie" and it should be "cut" or "released". Lactation consultants are often recommending this when there is a lack of evidence that it will help infants feed better, Laser companies selling lasers to dentists, and telling them how much they can make by "offerring" this procedure with their laser... most children who I see and are told they need this, are NOT even toungue tied.

We as healthcare providers are SUPPOSED to be providing evidence based treatment for our patients, and this clearly is NOT, and like one doctor said in the article, this smells like a "money grab". Read the article, and get a second opinion if you are told your child needs this. But basically, if they can stick their tongue out, they are NOT tongue tied!

Another AAO annual session in the books for myself and our team! With Dr. Janine Fields Ellis and our dedicated and talented team, we attended many lectures in Chicago over the 3 days to find ways to continually improve care for our patients. I was asked to speak for 3M about on the exhibit floor, and of course we had team building fun at Wrigley Field, taking in a near perfect game by the Cubs! Also enjoyed catching up with some great friends/orthodontists Neal Kravitz , Rob Schindel Adam Schulhof Get-Grin Grin and John Pham InBrace Looking forward to being back in the office this week!

Congratulations Sharon, our latest patient who just completed her treatment. She got the perfect smile without anyone knowing she was wearing braces.

This was a case we decided was borderline needing extractions to treat properly. However, with properly planned IPR (slight reduction of tooth width done at select areas), elastic wear, and (behind the teeth braces with custom smartwires), this case was successfully treated in 18 months.
OH.. by the way, THE UPPER BRACES ARE STILL ON ON THESE PICTURES! 😁

Not only are we seeing amazing results with INBRACE for this patient over the 2 months these images were taken, but these images are from our remote monitoring app called GRIN!
LESS office visits, yet CLOSER doctor supervision!

Traditional braces are still often the best option for complex treatments. I bet you can't even tell this patient is missing her upper left canine!

It was an honor to speak this weekend at the Toronto Orthodontic Club (TOC), which is the oldest Orthodontic Study club in the world! Thank you to the board of the TOC and especially my good friend Dr. James Noble and his wife Sandra for all the work it took to organize this excellent meeting with 100 orthodontists. And thank you to the amazing people I work with at 3M who sponsored my lecture, especially Megan and Chrissy who were here with me this weekend. An amazingly rewarding weekend with gread friends and the great food didn't hurt either!

Happy birthday to my partner Dr Ellis! Thought everyone would enjoy this blast from the past, circa 2006 when we graduated our orthodontic residency and started our journey into our profession we still love today!

Our latest transformation this year! Excellent compliance wearing his 3M for only 13 months.
With a proper diagnosis and plan, we find Clarity Aligners light years ahead of in efficiency. Unlike the one size fits all plastic most companies use, 3M allows us to vary the plastic of the aligners at different stages just like we do with wires on braces, to accomplish different goals faster!
