My favorite mug (which was actually the very first mug I ever made and hand built) was accidentally broken a few months back and so I decided to make another mug for myself. It’s now my new favorite and I’m using it today! It’s my favorite not only because I picked the glazes and love the result but because it also holds so much meaning. It’s a regular reminder to me.
This past year has included some tough stuff. I don’t air it all out as I know everyone has hard and tough stuff. And truth be told despite it all I’m okay. I’m navigating and learning more about myself as I go. I’m letting go of some things I don’t need to hold on to and I’m clinging to some things I do. It’s part of life and sometimes we face more of it than others. Sometimes you need a hand up and sometimes you’re the one to give the hand. So this post isn’t for pity or for people to be concerned. It’s just a real and authentic post about why this mug is meaningful. The “heart” behind my pottery art.
When I was receiving the “hand up” and getting some sound advice I was challenged to face the things I was fearing the most in the circumstances I was facing. And I was challenged to ask myself “even if.” Even if that thing happened and the worst of the worst played out - what will I choose? Will I choose to hang onto my faith in God and that He is still good despite it all? Will I choose to still trust Him? Will I choose to bring all the broken pieces to Him along with the good? Will I choose to believe there is good plan and purpose despite how things appear? And in the moment I had to make a decision. And so, the phrase “even if” became the very thing that helped me take the wind out of the sails of fear and it no longer has the same power over me that it once did. I made this mug as a reminder of my choice to stand - even if. Daniel 3:17-18.
Even if.

Had fun in my little home studio this morning. Coming soon - coffee travel mugs.
Who needs one of these???
First rays of morning light while putting wax resist on a batch of mugs I’ll glaze later today.
I enjoy the process.
Each mug takes time to make and there are multiple steps. Just like life. Rushing removes the personal touch and care that goes into each one. It’s what makes them unique. I often hear there’s something special about Bringdom Pottery and I’m convinced this is it. I love making pottery and it’s transferred to each piece.
Remember there can be joy in the journey when life’s steps feel like they are slowing you down and you are tempted to rush through. Embrace the process. Something beautiful often is the result.
A fun batch of color combinations from a recent firing.
I was honored to make 5 of these “I AM” cross mugs as custom order gifts for the ladies in a college friend’s Bible study. How sweet and thoughtful and what a way to remember their study together!
It’s so fun when you get the privilege to use your creative talent to collaborate and make something for a friend and her movement! Demo in the works!
The big reveal!!!
Some worked great. Some need a little tweaking. It’s all part of the learning curve with new glazes and my journey as a potter altogether. So that being said, some of these I will reglaze and fire again. But I’m showing them all so you can take the journey with me. I’m loving the bright colors so despite all the extra work of brushing the glaze on - I like how most of them turned out!
Which is your favorite color combination and which is your favorite design? I love the feedback as it helps me know what appeals to you and not just what I like! 🤣
It’s been a while since I posted anything. New design demos are in the works. Excited to see how these glaze combinations turn out. Painting multiple glaze colors takes a long time. Each glaze - 3 coats - dry in between.
Honestly, the whole process of pottery takes a long time. Throw, partially dry, trim, attach handles and embellishments, dry again, bisque fire, wipe down and wax the bottom and sometimes the designs, paint the designs separately, wax over those, glaze, & a 2nd firing. And on top of that - sometimes they don’t turn out!!!
But… all that said…I love it and that is what makes these future “Mugs of Encouragement” a piece of functional, one-of-a-kind art.
Beauty and value is in the eye of the beholder.

When the light hits just right
A custom mug I made a while back was recently gifted and the recipient was thrilled. I love making meaningful gifts and pottery.
As 2023 comes to a close I want to personally thank all those who have supported Bringdom and my love for creating meaningful, inspirational, functional art. Sitting at the pottery wheel allows me some time for solitude, personal reflection, and connection with the One who created me and gave me the talent to begin with. I love my time there and being able to sell my art allows me to continue to have space to create. 😁 I’ve also been able to gift meaningful pieces for heartfelt causes and memories to help others heal while giving inspiration and hope. I was honored to make some amazing one of a kind custom mugs for Christmas gifts this year, custom mugs for air bnb properties and a resort, and also some of these elephant mugs in honor of a special friend who inspired many and will never be forgotten. I love that I’ve been able to donate some of our profits to non profits doing amazing things in our community. My inspiration board of ideas for 2024 has already started! Stay tuned.

Words create worlds. The words you speak and believe impact the world around you. I love this hoodie because it speaks truth and someone needs to see this message today. I need to remind myself of this message. My kids need to hear this message. Photo credit to my son - H.S.
