Looks like the same areas that got hammered with severe storms Friday have the chance for more bad storms tomorrow (Tue) 4-4-23.https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=589751863177418&id=100064278295620&set=a.299727392179868&sfnsn=mo&mibextid=6aamW6
Tornado damage in Whiteland, IN. Debris is still blowing across the road from strong winds today.
Is the snow fun ..... or not?
Our snow pack will melt quickly as rain moves in today (March 16 ). Some basements will flood (total pain). You'll need plenty of wiper fluid for your automobile too. On the plus side.... tomorrow is Friday and St. Patrick's Day!
Back in the day I went to Pensacola Beach for a quick R&R from graduate school. I was tanning on Pensacola beach one day then drove back to Mississippi State. 24 hours later parts of the Florida panhandle got 6" of snow. I arrived back at school in time to get slammed by a big snow storm. It was 30 years ago when The Storm of the Century hit from the Gulf of Mexico all the way up the east coast. Here is a good article on the historic storm.
How a historic storm swept in a new era in forecasting Thirty years ago, NWS issued an unprecedented 5-day forecast.
Drifting was impressive on my deck. 26" at my sliding door, 4 feet next to it! I had to shovel out the back door so my Corgi's could go outside.
My dog Phoebe is covered in snow after a quick "trip" outside.
Heavy snow will move from IL into WI today. Expecting snow to start in the Fox Cities first (11a-12p) and move north into Green Bay around 1-2pm. The heaviest snow moves into Green Bay around 6pm. Models are giving us 8.5", National Weather Service 10". Wind gusts to 40mph tonight and 35mph tomorrow will still create bad driving conditions and lots of drifting.
Snow amounts have started to line-up well with both the GFS (American) and ECMWF (European) models. Snow tonight with 5" by tomorrow morning in areas from Oshkosh south, 2-4" of snow by tomorrow morning from Appleton to Green Bay. Snow ends tomorrow morning in Green Bay with Big snow roaring back Wednesday late afternoon (earlier in the Fox Cities). Most models give Green Bay 10" of snow by Thursday morning. Dynamics with this storm are strong and the models tend to under forecast snowfall in these situations. So.... I'm expecting 12"-15" in Green Bay. Wind gusts up to 40 mph Wednesday night and Thursday will make for horrible driving conditions. Snow drifts will be impressive.
Complicated forecast with two weather systems hitting us back to back. While the computer models still don't quite line up, we will get snow, the big question is how much. Between Wednesday night and Thursday the least amount the models produce is 8" in Green Bay, while the most is 13". The average of all the models is 10". Fun with numbers right? With gusts to 40 mph Wed and Thu the snow will drift and driving will be a mess. I'll check the computer models tonight to see how they agree or disagree and adjust snow totals. Be safe out there!
Snow amounts are less than expected in NE Wisconsin. A combination of dry air holding of the snow overnight and then more dry air coming in early this morning limited the amounts of snow we received. I really thought we'd get 5" in the Green Bay area, but such is the world of weather forecasting.
When it's not snowing, yet the winds are blowing so hard it creates blizzard like conditions = ground blizzard a.k.a. scary driving/holy S&!@. Video taken in Northern IL Thu 23rd.
This week's storm path has moved a bit farther away from WI. While we will see snow, it will be less than expected, with 4"-6" for most of GB and the Fox Cities. Plenty of wind on Thursday night and Friday will make for challenging travel with blowing snow covering roads. The snow total graphic is from the National Weather Service in Green Bay.
The US model (GFS) and the European model (ECMWF) are not quite in agreement with the snow, so the confidence in snow amounts is not great. BUT... we will get snow in NE WI! Travel Thursday night into Friday will not be good. Here is the trick to reading the maps. Take what the models think is our "current snow cover" and subtract it from snow totals by the two models; that's how much snow they are predicting. We'll have a better idea of snow amounts tomorrow!
Black Friday took a lot out of my dog Joe.

I saw this and it made me smile. I needed that.
A windy sunset.
Is this witch flying a broom, or did she have too much spicy food? I'll let you be the judge.
Again, this post will be old by 11pm Tuesday 9/27. Check for updates. Hurricane Ian's track is forecast to be a little farther south from earlier this afternoon with Landfall near Englewood, FL.
Showers at sunset.
Hi resolution video of Tropical Storm Fiona.
Looks like a bit warmer weather in our future.
[9/13/22] Here's a look ahead at the middle of September as well. Temperatures will remain above normal but a bit more precipitation could accompany the warmth at times over next weekend.
That's a big chunk of Ice!

On This Day...Just last year in 2021, a hailstorm swept through the Fox Valley & produced a 4.5 inch hailstone north of Appleton. This is the largest hailstone to fall so late in the season since 1950!

The flower explosion is just starting!
I've got some major buds growing (said in Jeff Spicoli surfer voice). Probably 30+ soon to be flowers from my hardy hibiscus plant. The plant itself is not much to look at, but the flowers are huge! I planted it last summer. It likes the sun and doesn't need much care. I'll post more when the flowers pop open.
Even my dog Joe enjoyed tonight's sunset.
