A frequent visitor, meet Margaret with Tug Albert! The tugboat Albert was originally constructed in 1979 and has faithfully served the Great Lakes region over the past several decades. In 2018, the tug was refitted and joined Margaret in transporting petroleum products.

It exists to enhance the prosperity of the people of Northeast Wisconsin by providing facilities and infrastructure able to effectively move commodities and goods across the nation. So far, so good! Today’s cargo highlight is wood pulp. Did you know the wood pulp imported through the Port of Green Bay is mainly eucalyptus pulp from South America? It’s used to make specialty items like absorbent diapers and products like Swiffer duster refills.

This Tuesday, we share a fact that may seem hard to believe…

If the water in the Great Lakes was spread across North America, it would reach 5 feet deep. If it were spread across only the lower 48, it would be 9.5 feet deep! WOW!

The Great Lakes and their tributaries make a big difference in our quality of life. Do you know how large the Great Lakes watershed is? It’s almost 295,000 square miles, and roughly 34 million people live within it!

The nine-member Brown County Harbor Commission serves as an oversight committee for the Port of Green Bay. The Commission was first established in 1928 but became more actively involved in Port activities in 1956, four years before the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Did you know that the Great Lakes are home to more than 3,500 plant and animal species? That includes more than 170 species of fish!

Have you ever heard the term SALTIES?

SALTIES are international vessels that can also be ocean-going. Most salties on the Great Lakes handle dry bulk or break bulk (goods in crates, bags, boxes, etc.) cargo.
