Green Fire Department
The City of Green Division of Fire.
Another great week of joint training with Jackson Fire Department at the former Regal theatre and another big "thank-you" to the Ohio Fire Academy for their instruction on rooftop ventilation and Serra Auto Group for allowing us to use the facility.
Today, we bid farewell to an incredible member of the Green Fire Department, Amy Sehm, as she embarks on her well-deserved retirement. Her contributions have been invaluable, and she will be greatly missed by all of us.
Amy began her career as an Administrative Assistant with the city almost 27 years ago. First in the Engineering Department, then with the Mayor's Office, and for the past eight years with the Fire Division.
Please join us in wishing Amy all the best in this new chapter of her life. May her retirement be filled with joy, relaxation, and new adventures!
Thank you, Amy, for everything you've done for us here at Green Fire!!! There are so many things you did behind the scenes that helped us all in more ways than you may ever know. That, and not to mention the laughs we got to share on a daily basis. You will always be a cherished part of the Green Fire family. Please don't be a stranger!

Today was the ACBC Burn Camp Fire Truck Day. Many area fire departments bring different types of fire engines for the campers to see close-up, as well as meeting and talking with the firefighters. Everyone then gets to run through and spray each other with water. It was a beautiful day and everyone had a blast!
The Fourth of July is quickly approaching! Keep these firework safety tips in mind to ensure your Independence day is as safe as it is fun!

Yesterday, the department hosted the Female Firefighters of Ohio for a fire behavior training with the Ohio Fire Academy. It was a great day and a great ending to a phenomenal week of training. Not to mention, one of the hottest days of the year so far. They were also joined by Mayor Rocco Yeargin and our interns from last week Shareen Awadallah and Sophia Miller.

For more information on Female Firefighters of Ohio, check out their website https://femalefirefightersofohio.org or contact Alexandria Brown at [email protected].
Last week the fire department hosted a couple of interns who are currently gaining municipal government experience with the city. During their rotation at the department, we exposed them to different aspects of being a firefighter and integrated them into our daily activities and training. Thank you, Sophia and Shareen, you both excelled at everything we threw at you!
As we face this extreme heat, try to take steps to stay cool. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Avoid sugary or alcoholic drinks that can dehydrate you.
Wear Light Clothing: Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothes. Don't forget a hat and sunglasses
Cool Indoor Spaces: Spend time in air-conditioned places. If you don't have AC, visit public places like malls or libraries to cool off.
Limit Outdoor Activities: Try to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (10 AM - 4 PM). If you need to be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade.
Eat Light: Meals like salads and fruits. Avoid heavy, hot foods that can increase body heat.
Protect Pets: Make sure your pets have plenty of water and a cool place to rest. Avoid walking them on hot pavement.
Check on Others: Keep an eye on family, friends, and neighbors, especially the elderly and those with health conditions.
We are currently conducting live fire training behind fire station #1. We have the opportunity to utilize the Fire Behavior Lab and instructors from the Ohio Fire Academy. This simulates live fire conditions and a chance to learn the science behind the multiple stages of a fire. Members from Springfield, New Franklin and Greentown have joined us for this valuable experience. More to come!
As the summer heat cranks up, it’s crucial to remember the hidden dangers of leaving children and pets in parked cars. The temperature inside a vehicle can rise rapidly, even on a mild day, turning it into a deadly oven. Here are some shocking facts:
Rapid Temperature Increase: The temperature inside a car can rise by 20°F in just 10 minutes. Even with windows cracked, it’s not enough to prevent the heat from becoming dangerous.
Children and Pets at Higher Risk: Their bodies heat up 3-5 times faster than adults, making them extremely vulnerable to heatstroke.
Prevention Tips:
Never Leave Them Alone: Not even for a minute.
Look before you lock: Always double-check your car before locking it, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Create Reminders: Place a necessary item in the back seat (e.g., your phone, bag, or laptop) to ensure you check the back seat.
Take Action: If you see a child or pet alone in a car, call 911 immediately.
Let’s spread the word and keep our loved ones safe this summer. Share this post to raise awareness and potentially save lives!

Green Fire is participating in this drill. Per FAA requirement, a live mock training is required every three years.
We’ll be conducting a mock disaster drill this afternoon to test and improve emergency procedures and preparedness. Local law enforcement, fire, medical, and other emergency management agencies will participate in the drill. The mock disaster drill is an essential training tool for all involved, please refrain from gathering or observing the drill. All other operations remain normal. Thanks for your cooperation!
