This week was founded to appreciate introverts all over the world for their qualities and to encourage them to stand proud in their identities, rather than comparing themselves to extroverts. It is not only extroverts who get ahead in life and reap all the benefits, so it’s high time that the many stereotypes around introverts be smashed and the record set straight.

It's National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week and we’re joining the conversation to promote awareness and debunk myths surrounding substance use and addiction.
What is National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week?
It's an annual observance designed to empower teens and young adults with science-based facts about drugs, alcohol, and addiction.
Let's tackle some common myths associated with substance use and addiction:
❌Myth: "Prescription drugs are safer than illegal drugs."
✅Fact: Misuse of prescription drugs can be just as dangerous as using illegal substances. Prescription drug misuse can lead to addiction, overdose, and other serious health consequences.
❌Myth: "Drinking alcohol helps you sleep better."
✅Fact: While alcohol may initially make you feel drowsy and help you fall asleep faster, it disrupts the quality of your sleep overall. Over time, reliance on alcohol as a sleep aid can lead to sleep disorders and exacerbate existing sleep problems.
❌Myth: "Addiction only affects certain 'types' of people."
✅Fact: Addiction can impact individuals from all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. While certain risk factors, such as genetics, environment, trauma, or mental health conditions, may increase susceptibility to addiction, no one is immune to its effects.
❌Myth: "Addiction is a choice and can be overcome by willpower alone."
✅Fact: Willpower alone is often insufficient to overcome addiction. Addiction is a chronic disease that affects the brain's structure and function, leading to compulsive drug-seeking behavior despite harmful consequences. Seeking professional help and support is crucial for managing addiction and achieving long-term recovery.
By dispelling myths we can inform and empower each other to make healthy choices.

🙋♂️ 🙋♀️ Can you get addicted to ADHD medication?
🗣️ Many teens who have been diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) take prescription stimulants like Adderall® or Ritalin® to help treat their symptoms. When taken as directed, these medications can be helpful and safe, and have a very low risk for addiction. If your doctor prescribes stimulants, it’s important to follow the instructions and to discuss any concerns about addiction or dependence.
Sometimes people who don’t have ADHD take drugs like Adderall® or Ritalin® in an attempt to get high, to stay awake longer, or to stay focused while studying. According to the Monitoring the Future annual survey on teen drug use, there was a significant increase in the misuse of the ADHD medicine Adderall® among 8th graders from 2015 to 2020.
This can be especially harmful because people often take these medications at a higher dose or through a different route than prescribed. Misusing ADHD medications can cause headaches, nausea, feeling anxious, and sleeping problems. Misusing prescription stimulants can also lead to addiction. These drugs can also make you feel paranoid, cause your body temperature to get dangerously high, and make your heart beat too fast. While stimulants may help with a lack of focus in some people, they may diminish other skills (like creative thinking).
