August is National Vaccine awerness Month!

A vaccine is defined as a biological preparation intended to generate immunity to a specific disease that is administered to stimulate the body’s immune response against specific infectious agents or diseases and is a simple, safe, and effective way of protecting against harmful diseases before exposure to them and in controlling outbreaks of certain diseases.
Various health organizations in the United States and across the globe indicate that vaccines are critical to promoting public health and remain the most effective means of protecting individuals from certain diseases and/or lessening the severity of illness, as well as controlling infectious disease outbreaks. Literature indicates that the development of safe and efficacious vaccination against diseases that cause substantial morbidity and mortality has been one of the top 10 scientific advances of the 21st century.

Yesterday, at Baileyton Drug Company we had the pleasure of hosting a visit from Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger (R) TN-1. It was a successful and pleasurable meeting to discuss some of the "hot topics" regarding not only Pharmacy legislation but other small business legislation that is moving on the Federal Level. I would have considered it quite the "Pharmacist Think Tank". I know that we have a great Patient and Pharmacy Advocate in Congress!

body armor.

Baileyton Police Department, TN, K9 Maverick will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Maverick’s vest is sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Born to Love-Trained to Serve- Loyal Always”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 5,627 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations.
The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00,
