Labor day open mat 2024 tomorrow September 2nd at 10am. Open to all academies. All night classes canceled.

What a week for Fluid Jiu Jitsu. We had not 1 but 2 belt ceremonies. Monday we saw 2 purples, 1 brown and a black belt tie. A first for our academy that one of our own students received a black belt from me. The color belts at Fluid are growing and the skill in the room is always amazing.

Then, Thursday for our first 6am multiple person belt ceremony we saw a blue, purple and brown belt given. The 6am crew is as solid as some academies entire roster.

Congrats to all our newly promoted students. Stay tuned for a brand new look coming soon at Fluid. The only evidence of life, is growth.

53 on the mat tonight for our belt ceremony. It's days like today that make me most proud of what Fluid Jiu Jitsu has become.

What is a martial artist? I asked Jason what kind of black belt he wanted to be, he answered, I just want to be the best martial artist I can be. We all may have our own definition of what a martial artist is. Mine is simple:

A person dedicated to personal growth through physical attunement. Control of oneself, and the ability to control the space around oneself if needed.

Noon adult gi

7pm adult gi

You can make up an excuse or you can come to class and get a little better.

There is something about training outside. Couldn't have asked for better weather for the Fluid beach event this year. Food and jiu jitsu, the best things in life.

Join the Fluid women tonight for women's only class. Every Friday at 7pm the ladies get together for shenanigans and a little jiu jitsu.

Anyone who tells you that you won't get hurt in jiu jitsu is lying to you. Anything you do, if you do it long enough, you will have wear from activity. Not doing anything is even worse. A lifetime of skill building with some injuries is far better than a sedentary life of atrophy and apathy. Start your jiu jitsu journey today! Many regret not starting sooner, no black belt regrets the work and effort they put in to achieve it.

A warrior does not always win, a warrior always fights. We had some competitors at NAGA yesterday. Some wins, some losses. Everyone is better for the experience. I am proud as a coach of the heart of my students. Most people who train will never test their skill on a platform like this. Showing up is enough to invoke pride, winning is just the cherry on top. Thank you also to our team who came to support. Fluid is an amazing place to belong to.

What makes a black belt a black belt? I have written a chapter of what I feel makes a black belt. I may post a link for you to read it in the near future if I get enough interest? But I want to know what you think. Why is a black belt a black belt in your eyes? Why do some brown belts (even purple) beat up black belts? I'll give you a hint, it's not just skill. Give me your argument. This is opinion corner, no wrong answers, just wondering. Any arguing will be deleted.

You tell me you are too old. I hear your words but you are actually saying you have no motivation to keep making yourself better. Try new things. Learn new skills. Be like Nancy Bernier. First class is f r e e.
