Promoting the right of every child to a permanent, safe, and loving family since 1902.
As the leading private, non-profit child and family services agency in the state of North Carolina, Children’s Home Society of NC provides a broad range of services but our goal is simple: to be a compassionate advocate for families. We specialize in education and prevention programs, family preservation, and adoption and foster care. Ultimately, everything we do is built on our foundational belief that strong families have the power to transform communities.

Parenting doesn’t come with a handbook. Asking for help can and will make a difference.
“A lot of times, parents don’t know where to go or feel a little reluctant to reach out. Parenting is so personal to people. It pulls at your heart, but you want what’s best, and that’s the approach we try to take," said Sabrina Cooke-Davis, Executive Director of Programs at the CHSNC.
Thank you to WXII Audrey Biesk and WXII 12 NEWS for encouraging all parents to ask for support when they need it!

Did you know a child’s brain grows and develops rapidly in their first 3 years of life? It is during this time the foundation for how a child will relate to others and manage and express their emotions is built.
They come into the world unable to regulate their physical and emotional states independently and learn how to do these through their relationship with caregivers. Relationships with caregivers shape how infants learn to relate with others and manage emotions later in life.
Ways you can promote your infant’s mental health today and every day:
- Take care of yourselves and find healthy ways to manage emotions.
- Spend quality time with your baby, reading a book out loud or playing together.
- Be attentive and responsive to your baby’s physical and emotional needs. Research tells us that there’s no such thing as “spoiling a baby”!
- Respond to your baby’s babble and coos, even describing the things you’re doing during the day promotes bonding and a sense of attachment. And it can boost language development later!

In every culture, storytelling plays a key role in how individuals communicate and connect. Last week in Banner Elk, a group of board members, adoptive parents, and new friends gathered in the NC mountains to share their own stories of the role of CHS in their lives. Though every story was unique, they all inspired and reminded us of the importance of family in a child’s life.
Thank you sincerely to our “mountain friends” who shared such meaningful memories and thank you to each and every one of you for supporting children and families across our state.
Do you have a story of how CHS has changed your life? We'd love to hear from you in the comments on this post or send us a direct message! Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who attended our Dads' Joke-a-Thon event last Thursday at The Idiot Box Comedy Club in Greensboro! It was a night filled with incredibly (corny) dad jokes, laughs, and community.
Special thanks to our host Steve Lesser, owner of The Idiot Box, and our brave amateur dad joke contest participants! And special congratulations to our amateur Dad Joke Contest Winner - "Festive Bob!"
Festive Bob was working as a ride-share driver Thursday. He picked up his riders who told him about the event. After dazzling them with some patented dad jokes, he was convinced by his riders to come in and join in the fun.
He signed up for the contest on the spot and won with a series of jokes about strawberries including: What do you call a sad strawberry? A BLUEberry! Festive Bob won the contest, got his trophy, and then went right back to his ride-share job.
Thank you to Festive Bob and everyone else who made this a fun and sweet event to celebrate Father's Day!
