The SVB situation is ripe for use as fodder for Phishing, Business Email Compromise, and other social engineering. People are going to be on edge about their finances and no better time to act as a hacker than when people are emotional and reactive.

Stay diligent! Expect to see a lot of fake emails from banks and other financial institutions especially be cautious if they are trying to get you to click links or give information.

Long story short. Risk Assessment along with assigning responsibility for key areas of risk is THE MOST CRITICAL THING you can do to protect your business against cybersecurity attacks.

I’m going to break some vendor sales guys’ hearts here. The number one factor in a strong cybersecurity posture is not what brand firewall you use. It’s not how nextgen/AI your anti malware tool is. It’s not how quirky your security awareness comic characters are in your training videos. Surprise: as always its people, process, constant improvement. It’s how well you and your entire team understand your business processes and where the risks are in those processes for exploitation. All the technology tools you deploy are to mitigate those risks. If you don’t understand your risks, and you don’t have people acting as the primary layer to protect your most critical assets then you can’t properly deploy tools anyway. A mid tier vendor's tool properly deployed based on your actual risk is vastly more effective than "THE BEST" tool deployed in a generic manner.

Sure you have to do something with the risks you identify, but knowing the risk, and knowing which ones are your responsibility will change your posture on actively protecting against attacks which is very good start.
