The end of winter propagation season is near! These are hardwood cuttings that I have been working on since early December. These will be potted up next Fall and will be available for sale in 2025.
Let the potting season begin! Fall is here and it’s time to start potting up all the rooted cuttings that were done this past year. Most of these babies will be ready for market next spring. Hope to see you there!

A quick tour of the edible landscaping plants currently available at the Nursery.
Thank you so much to all the wonderful customers who came to see us at the for the 2022 Growing In The Mountains plant sale and Spring Festival. Weather was fantastic and we had a great time!
One more frosty/freezing night in the Upstate of South Carolina for Mercurial March, notorious for it's fickle and unpredictable weather. Soon, we're on to Spring, but tonight cover those tender perennials and Spring annuals to mitigate cold damage.
Hardwood cuttings ready to tuck away until late Spring. These little babies will go into two-quart pots later this summer and then to market this Fall or next Spring.
It has been very warm in the Upstate this past week as evidenced by this fully blooming Forsythia. While it’s tempting to plant small perennials, seedlings and Spring annuals I would recommend holding off for several weeks. We’re sure to have more freezing temperatures in March. Now is a great time to prepare your beds and amend soil as needed. You can safely plant larger trees and shrubs, as well as Evergreens now, but hold off on the smaller tender plants until April.
I’ve been getting a lot of questions about plants with yellowing and spotted leaves. This is just dormancy coming on. Deciduous plants (ones who lose their leaves during the winter) will begin to go dormant this time of the year regardless of the temperature. This is because the days are getting shorter and, even though we haven’t had frost or freezing temperatures, shorter light cycles will cue the plants to begin dormancy. They know winter is coming! This is perfectly natural and nothing to be concerned with. Next spring these plants will leaf out with healthy foliage and vibrant blooms.
Here’s the latest orphan to show up at my Nursery. This little fawn lost her mother in August. When she showed up at the Nursery she was pretty weak and hungry and I preferred she not eat the plants so, of course, I started feeding her. My neighbor pitched in with pears and apples from her fruit trees and donated a salt lick. So far so good. The little bobcat kitty (Tabo) is also a Nursery orphan.
