If I had known how much I would love helping people with Medicare, I’d have been doing this work 20 years ago. Holy cow. For those with the words of affirmation love language, you know what this email does to my heart!

Thank you, Lord, for leading me to this work!

In the time it takes you to hum the “happy birthday” song twice, a fire department will respond to a new call somewhere in the United States. And in just over a minute, there will be a total of three such calls, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

Given the frequency of fires and the unique risks presented in the summer months, we’re sharing a timely reminder of safety best practices. Swipe through to learn more ➡️

Do you have any other fire safety tips to add to the list? We would love to hear – add them in the comments below!

Happy Easter! He is risen!

I came across this Marketplace ad this week. In the first picture, the SUV looks really good. But when you get a better look at the whole vehicle, yikes! There are two lessons we can learn from this.

First, a reminder that what you usually see on social media is like the first picture of the SUV. People typically arrange their pictures and posts so that all imperfections are hidden. If you see enough of the shockingly perfect posts, you may subconsciously start to feel alone in your brokenness, as if you are the only one with an imperfect life. You may even be tempted to filter everything you allow the world to see or know about you for fear that the real you just won't measure up. Those perfect people with all their perfect posts are broken too. You just can't see it. This leads to the second lesson.

Every person needs a place where they can safely let others see behind the curtain of their life, both the first picture (the beautiful one) and the second picture (the screwed up one). Do you know where that place is for you? The place where you can be honest and open. The place where you can work through the brokenness and begin to heal, to grow, to find peace? For some, a friend provides this space. For others, a church group is the perfect place. Therapy, support groups, fitness clubs and other resources are proving hugely helpful for many as well.

But what about you? Answer the question for yourself. Where can you be truly transparent? Social media may only get to see the "beautiful you" and that is fine, but God created you with the need to share the "broken you" as well. And I have learned that in time, many of the broken things become the most beautiful. Don't hide. Connect! And if you need help figuring out how to get this process started in your life, reach out to me directly! I'd be happy to point you in the right direction.

While visiting my 2nd home (Commerce, GA) on Tuesday, I found myself with an hour to kill before my next meeting. I drove past my old house and felt drawn to take a longer look. Sitting there reminiscing, I couldn't help but be overcome with emotion. It was at that house as a young teenager that I saw my dad arrested, effectively ending what semblance of a relationship we had. A lot of sorrow flooded my heart.

Then, I remembered. It was also at that house that Emily and I brought home our first son. At that house, God granted me the opportunity to start building the kind of relationship with my son that I never had with my dad. That trip down memory lane was much needed.

In the dark seasons, you have no way of knowing how bright the future will be. Some days, you just put one foot in front of the other and trudge on. Most times, you get the opportunity to look back and see how God brought you through. And occasionally, you'll find that the worst seasons of life cultivated the ground where the most beautiful things could bloom.

Last night, through tears I explained the goodness of God to Micah and how meaningful seeing that old house was. I told him how special it was that I got to bring him as a newborn back to that same house that previously held rough memories for me. Micah jumped up and ran to me, hugged me and said "Thank you, Dad. I love you!" He's only 10, but somehow I think he gets how deeply this matters to me.

Another proof that every bad thing in my life has been used to teach me, to correct me, to prepare me for what lies ahead. May we learn not to wilt in the tough seasons, but to believe in the future and in a God who works all things together for good.

2022 brought a significant change in my life. I had been day dreaming about entrepreneurial stuff for several years but felt certain I was to be a pastor for years to come. That changed in early ‘22. Slowly but surely over the following months, I began building my insurance agency. I dedicated myself to knowing the products inside out and to operating with integrity. Learned quickly that having integrity and being informed would be a differentiator in this health insurance world. Pair that with my passion to teach and the opportunity to train agents who are new to health insurance and business is taking off. I love it.

I love the impact I’ve been able to make. I love studying the products. I love knowing all the rules (I’m looking at you Medicare). I love the opportunities to grow the business and plan for the future. And I won’t lie to you-it’s shocking the amount of money that can be made in this industry. It’s not Shaq money 😂 but for a boy raised in Sunny Slopes the potential is eye-opening. It’s easy to dream big. But it’s also easy to let this business consume me. That’s why I appreciate how honest Shaq was when speaking to Jason Kelce recently on his podcast: “You have it all man. Enjoy your beautiful wife. Enjoy your beautiful kids…Cause I was an idiot. Lost my whole family. In a 100,000 square foot house by myself.”

I have no clue what all God may allow me to accomplish with Poston Health. At the moment, the future looks bright. But I’d rather ride on the back of a Kirby garbage truck than lose my family due to chasing the dollar.

It’s why I’m working on safeguards now to not let my business overrun my family time. And I’d love your input. What have some of you done to make sure business/career (or anything else) does not cause your priorities to get out of whack?

My family is coming up on the 2 year anniversary of our favorite purchase, and it was only $200. Emily told me we would use it all the time but I wasn’t sure.

She was right. The kids love it. Our little two (5 & 3) beg me to play on it with them everyday. There are water attachments, basketball/volleyball attachments, and tons more available. Yep, it’s just a good ole trampoline. If you have kids and no trampoline, buy one. But there are a few things that make it more successful:

-Have a place near the house for it where it can be easily seen.
-Incorporate balls or balloons.
-The more the merrier. Our neighbor kids love to join in.
-PLAY ON IT WITH THEM.

The last is the most important. They’ll learn to love it without you but it’s way more fun with you. And parent hack: for “sharks and minnows”, the shark just lays in the middle tripping the little minnows as they run around.

The trampoline, if properly used, can get your kiddos off technology and into the sun this spring and summer!

My 10 year-old, Micah, and 8 year-old, Natalie, love managing money. Micah is a big-time saver who enjoys working hard. For a few years, if I offered to pay him to help me clear bushes and trees or to spread mulch, he'd stick by my side for hours before asking for a break. He is also planning a candy vending business as soon as I give him the green light. Natalie, not as much a fan of grunt work, is even more the entrepreneur. Lemonade stands. Baked good stands. Art and craft stands. She'd be at the end of the driveway every Saturday morning if we let her. One of my favorite pictures is of her (at age 7) going door to door in our neighborhood selling cookies she had just baked.

For years, we didn't have a good way to help them keep up with their money. We've tried savings accounts but accessing their money when needed always seemed inconvenient. So they have mostly kept their cash stashed away in their own hidden spot. Then, if they wanted to spend any of it, we would typically make the purchase and have the pay us back (if we remembered). The whole process has been very clunky.

Then recently, we heard about and signed up for the Greenlight debit card for kids. We've only been using it for a month, but we love it.

With the Parent Account, we can
1. Move funds to their account.
2. Determine how much of their balance they can spend and at what stores/sites.
3. Create spending/savings/giving buckets within their account.

With the Kids Account, they can
1. Set savings goals
2. Use their debit card to make purchases
3. Share a QR code/link where family (or bake sale victims) can send money directly.

These aren't all the features, but look...I'm not a paid promoter of this product. You can look up Greenlight or search for "debit card for kids" and read all about the different options.

Oh, another important feature for parents that we are utilizing. We set up a weekly allowance that is automatically transferred to Micah and Natalie's accounts. But that allowance is tied to a list of chores. Guess what happens if the chore list is not marked as "completed"? No allowance gets transferred. Also, when the allowance is transferred, 30% goes into their "spending" bucket, 30% into "short-term savings", 30% into "long-term savings", and 10% into giving.

Any questions come to mind? Other parents, what is working for you in helping your kids learn how to manage money? Share your thoughts in the comments below and make sure to follow the page if you haven't!

Somewhere along the way, our society traded civility for hostility. Being self-serving, disrespectful and combative may be commonplace today among celebrities, politicians and influencers, but it should have no place in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and homes. Let Hollywood, Washington DC, and social media have all the drama. At your work, in your neighborhood, for your home…
Keep the peace.
Show respect.
Love your enemies.
