GMO Arctic Apples are being shipped around the country, with at least 1,400 acres being grown in Washington State. Produced by a company called Okanagan Specialty Fruits Inc., they're sold as cut fruit, in the refrigerator case, and to food service promoted as a children's snack. The apples were created with genetic engineering to turn off the gene that makes them turn brown, so you won't be able to tell if they're rotten. And the nutritional value will decline as it degrades without obvious signs. Studies show that genetic engineering can cause off-target and unintended changes in the chemistry of the food - yet there has been no safety testing. Scientists say that turning off the browning gene reduces the apples' natural ability to repel pests - so this could inadvertently increase pesticide use in GMO orchards. WTH. Conventional apples already contain, on average, about 5 pesticides per apple. We don’t need apple trees that can’t defend themselves and need potentially even more pesticides.

What apples are GMO? GMO Granny, Golden, Gala, and Fuji apples have been approved for sale by the USDA. Buyer beware - look for the Arctic Apple snowflake logo on packages of sliced cut apples and Arctic Bits dried apple snacks to avoid. Speak with your dollars!

If you're looking for apples that are slow to brown, use a little lemon juice, or look for organic Opal apples, which are Non-GMO Project Verified and naturally slow to brown. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.... it might not be a duck. We don't need GMO apples!

A new bill, introduced by Senator Dick Durbin, supported by a ‘Get the F Out of the FDA’ campaign, would create a Federal Food Administration (FFA), which would give exclusive, centralized and unbridled control over foods and dietary supplements to the new agency, potentially limiting consumer choice and innovation.
The FFA’s vague criteria for classifying product risk—without defined metrics—could result in inconsistent and biased decisions. This uncertainty may lead to the exclusion of certain supplements and foods from the market based on subjective judgments rather than solid evidence.
The establishment of the FFA could lead to further bureaucratic expansion and regulatory capture, where powerful corporations influence regulations to their advantage. This would likely stifle competition and limit access to innovative and natural health products. People in Illinois need to call Dick Durbin's office and tell him to stop hurting the natural food industry,

Burt Ward, who played Robin in the 1960s TV series Batman, has received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for a life dedicated to saving pets. “I was a ‘caped crusader’ and now I’m the canine and cat and kitten crusader,” Ward told WTOP. “Thirty years ago when my wife and I moved to the Inland Empire an hour east of Los Angeles, we got a beautiful Great Dane. … We started rescuing Great Danes in August 1994, and by the end of the month, we had 102 in our house! … We’ve been saving not just Great Danes, but St. Bernards, Chihuahuas, Yorkies, 45 different breeds, more than 15,500 saved.”

When your dog or cat eats (those) pesticides, they come down with cancer, the No. 1 killer of dogs and cats in America.”
