1️⃣ Advocate for Accessible Trails: Reach out to local parks and nature reserves to ensure they have accessible trails and facilities for all birders. Find out what to look for in our 'Access Considerations' document on our website and share the knowledge!

2️⃣ Create a Welcoming Birding Environment: Host bird outings that are inclusive of different mobility needs, sensory sensitivities, and communication preferences. We have a tool to help you get started called 'Steps to Implement Accessible and Inclusive Birding' on our website.

3️⃣ Submit a Site Review to the Birdability Map: Share your experiences at birding locations to help others find accessible spots and encourage improvements.

4️⃣ Support and Volunteer: Get involved with organizations working to make the outdoors inclusive of ALL people, like Birdability, Field Inclusive, CorpsTHAT, Black AF in STEM, and more!

Could You Bet Your Life on Your Memory? 🐦🤔

For many of us, the answer is probably no! But if you were a chickadee, you might have no choice. In fact, these incredible little birds rely on their amazing memory to survive!

Every fall, chickadees store thousands of seeds in different hiding spots to prepare for the harsh winter ahead. This behavior, called scatter hoarding, means each seed is hidden in a unique spot—under tree bark, dead leaves, even under house siding! 🌿🌰

What’s truly amazing? Chickadees actually grow more memory cells to keep track of all those locations! 🧠 Talk about a brainpower boost!

Nature is full of wonders, and chickadees never cease to amaze us. Keep an eye out for these clever seed hoarders this fall!

🐦💥 Feeling like the grackles are taking over your feeders? 😬 You’re not alone! Grackles are known for crowding out other birds, but don’t worry—we’ve got some expert tips to help you tackle the grackles and keep your feeders a welcoming spot for all your feathered friends!

Here’s how to outsmart those grackles:

1)Switch to Safflower Seed: Grackles aren’t fans of safflower seed, but cardinals, chickadees, and other small birds love it!
2)Use Caged Feeders: Choose feeders with cages around them. Grackles can’t fit through, but smaller birds can.
3)Try Weight-Sensitive Feeders: These feeders close off access to bigger birds like grackles but still allow lighter birds to feed freely.
4)Hang Feeders in Smaller Spaces: Grackles prefer more open spaces. Place your feeders closer to shrubs or trees to make it less appealing for them.

Don’t let grackles run the show at your feeders (unless you want too😉) —these simple tips can help restore balance in your backyard! 🐦🌿

🍁 Fall is the perfect time to prepare your yard to attract a variety of beautiful birds! Here’s how you can help them out and enjoy bird-watching all season long! 🍁

You may have noticed, sharing isn’t something that comes naturally to some birds. 😳

Mockingbirds, jays, and blackbirds are notorious for taking over a feeder. One solution is feeding safflower! Many of the birds mentioned above do not care for safflower, while most other birds love this nutritious white seed!

We're not saying a new bird feeder makes EVERYTHING better but it always seems to help us. 🤪

Have you ever noticed how woodpeckers will cling to your pole system before darting up to the feeder? We love watching that! Sometimes it seems they’re scoping out their options before deciding which feeder is best to eat from!

😂 It's always disappointing when the feeders are empty, but that typically doesn't last too long!

🍂 Fall migration is underway and billions of birds are migrating through North America, mostly under the cover of darkness. 🌙✨ Unfortunately, they face an increasing threat: unnatural, man-made light that attracts, disorients, and makes birds vulnerable to collisions with buildings. 🏙️💡
