This summer we were grateful to continue our relationship as a sponsor for CG23 Youth Baseball Camps! We provided athletic training coverage to all 3 weeks of camp to ensure the health and safety of several hundred campers over the course of the summer. It was so rewarding to see the growth of the campers throughout the weeks and to make an impact on the local youth athletic community!

🌟 Farewell to Our Amazing Interns! 🌟

We’re saying goodbye to our incredible sports performance/wellness interns, Nick Youngerman and Shamar Sykes. It’s been a fantastic summer getting to know and work with them.

Nick shares: “My favorite part was getting the opportunity to get hands-on experience with clients of all populations (especially athletes). I enjoyed working with the different clients and having the opportunity to express my knowledge practically. Having that application piece helped me grow both personally and professionally.”

Shamar shares: “I would recommend this internship because of the friendly environment of the clinic and the willingness of the staff to provide opportunities to learn and grow. The staff provides ample feedback to improve everyone’s craft and are always open to learn something new from clients and other team members.”

We wish them the best in their future endeavors! Nick plans to obtain a job in personal training or healthcare until he starts physical therapy school next year, and Shamar wants to work as a personal trainer with the goal to apply for different certifications to build his resume. 🚀

🎗️July is Osteosarcoma Awareness Month🎗️
 
We stand with Austin, a dedicated baseball player at Pitt CC, who is bravely fighting Osteosarcoma. As he recently underwent chemotherapy and a femur replacement surgery, he shares an important message:

“Trust and listen to your body when you are experiencing unnatural pain and problems, especially for athletes who play through injuries that they think are nothing. Early detection is important so don’t be scared to go and get a test. People don’t want to hear the cancer word but it is better to have a plan early rather than hearing that there is nothing else to do. For kids who are going through cancer stay strong and put God first and know that anything is beatable with God. You’re not alone in the battle and there is always a path to peace.” - Austin

At Youngs PT&SP, we support Austin and his mission to spread awareness and educate other athletes on the signs and symptoms of Osteosarcoma. You are true inspiration in the face of adversity, and we are rallying around you! 💛

Meet our July Athlete of the Month: Emma Haight!

Emma plays softball for Softball-Carolina Freedom and TEACH. She started coming to us after she underwent surgeries for hip dysplasia and labral repairs. We are so proud of her determination to get back on the field! No matter her setbacks, she never lost sight of her goal.

Emma’s parents shared: “Seeing Emma go from learning to walk again after her first surgery in October to getting back in the circle in June has been amazing to watch! Haley, Ethan, and Aly have gone above and beyond to help her recover and get back to pitching in a game while making her recovery fun!”

From Emma: “My favorite thing about Youngs is the connection I have made with Haley, Ethan, and Aly. I love coming to PT!” 💚

🎾June Athlete of the Month: ALISHA HUSSAIN🎾
Alisha has been extremely dedicated to her rehab process and has worked incredibly hard to return to playing tennis after injury. We admire how much of a team player she is, always cheering on her teammates no matter what!!

Alisha just graduated from East Carolina University where she played on the ECU Women’s Tennis team! She obtained a Bachelor in Communications and Psychology and recently started her Masters in Strategic Communication. Alisha was named Ms. Pirate, was the Outstanding Undergraduate Student School of Communication, received Pat Draughon Postgraduate Scholarship, and was an ITA Ann Lebendeff finalist. 
 
Alisha shares words of advice to other athletes:
“Enjoy the process and remember to always have fun. Believe in yourself and work hard, because the universe is going to reciprocate it. Dream big, because you can achieve anything you set your mind to. MOST importantly, be a better human than athlete 😁”

Another familiar face!!! Olivia Westerberg recently completed a Wellness/Sports Performance internship with our office and we just couldn’t let her go! We are so excited to have her officially join the team as a Sports Performance Coach and Personal Trainer 💚

Olivia obtained a Bachelor of Science in Health Fitness Specialist from East Carolina University. She enjoys working with all athletic and general population clients. When Olivia is not in the office, you may find her weightlifting, running or going to the beach!
