Breastmilk is the ideal food for infants. It's safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastfed children are less likely to be overweight or obese and less prone to diabetes later in life. Women who breastfeed also have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Here's 5 more breastfeeding facts.
In the United States, we have a shortage of mental health professionals trained to work with young people. Even worse, it is at a time when depression and anxiety are on the rise. Early intervention in children is crucial to avoid more severe problems later, yet parents struggle to find care for their children. Whether traveling by airplane, boat, or car this summer, we've got you covered with tips to help minimize your child's motion sickness.
✈️Airplane Travel: Select seats over the wings for stability, use individual air vents for airflow, encourage light meals beforehand, and provide distractions like music or games during the flight.
🚤Boat Ride: Sit facing forward to see the horizon as this can provide a sense of stability, eat light meals before departure, and stay hydrated.
🚙Road Trip: If your child is old enough and big enough, consider allowing him/her to ride in the front passenger seat for a clearer view, keep windows cracked for fresh air, and take breaks every few hours to stretch and hydrate.
Call us if you have any questions about how to treat your child's motion sickness.
At Pirate Pediatrics, we are firm believers in the power of a hug. On this , we're sharing three benefits of hugging your kids. We promise the hugs will benefit you as a parent as well!

While your little ones are soaking up the sunshine (and making memories!), remember to prioritize UV safety.
👉 Seek shade: Especially during peak sun hours (10 am - 4 pm).
👉 Cover up: Protective clothing like hats, sunglasses (UV 400" block both UVA and UVB rays), and long sleeves are your friends!
👉 Sunscreen: Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen liberally and reapply every 2 hours, or more often after swimming or sweating.
Following these simple tips, you can help keep your kids safe and prevent sunburn, which can increase their risk of skin cancer later in life.
