Today we celebrate the BEST boss around!! Happy Birthday Dr. Rouse!!! 😎

While in Uganda, we spent some time on Christmas Day gifting goats to people in a few different communities. All in all, we donated about 147 goats. You have never seen anyone so happy to get something as they were to get these goats. When we arrived, they were all singing and dancing and chanting. They use goats primarily as a food source and the gift of a goat can help raise them from poverty. A goat can usually have one or two babies per year. The first female baby goat they get they are supposed to gift to another family. After that they raise the goats to eat or sell. It sounds like the real goal is to get five or six goats so that they can trade that for a cow. We were blessed to help them get closer to their goals. While in Uganda we had the opportunity to witness the blessing of having clean water. Access to any water much less clean water is an issue still for many families. It is not uncommon for people to walk over a half mile or more 5-7 times a day to retrieve water for their family. This leaves less time for progress in other areas like education. When they get that water it often keeps them sick year round. The group that we went with uses donated money to drill wells to give families access to clean water. Wells will typically provide water for over 1,000 people. We went to a couple well opening ceremonies where the local people see clean water flowing from the boreholes for the first time. It is a party and an official ceremony all rolled into one. We were treated like honored guests. The message from all the villages was consistent. “Thank you so so much. Water is life. God has put you in our path. Please keep helping. We have lots more need.” This group does a good job in how it uses its resources. Some organizations require $20k-$30k to drill a borehole while this organization typically does it for $3–5k. If you would like more information go to familyhumanitarian.org
