This Labor Day, we recognize the hard work and precision that goes into every project. Thank you to our team for your commitment to creating spaces that inspire.
Our team recently completed a significant retail development in Millbrook, Alabama. This project includes a 45,000 square foot Publix store, for which we were responsible for designing the façade.
In addition to the Publix store, the development features 6,000 square feet of additional retail space, divided into five tenant spaces. COR3 Design provided comprehensive design services for all these spaces, ensuring a cohesive and functional environment for future tenants.

The grocery store and retail experience have evolved dramatically since the first self-service Piggly Wiggly in 1916, from baskets to shopping carts that revolutionized store layouts. Technological advancements, such as self-checkouts and online shopping, have transformed operations, with AI predicted to further enhance personalization and efficiency. Despite these changes, physical stores remain essential for their social and sensory experiences, a sentiment reinforced post-COVID-19.
We recently completed a facade design of a Publix store. What projects are your team working on in the retail space?

Our team loves working on unique and exciting projects. For a fun summer activity, we brainstormed what we would need to design a waterpark.
Like most of our projects, we always start with researching the target demographic to ensure a project’s feasibility and success. After initial research, we would focus on zoning, planning, licensing, and maintaining safety, cleanliness, accessibility, and sustainability to meet legal requirements and mitigate unique risks.

Our team visited a warehouse project under construction in our hometown of Greenville, SC to check on the progress. The original design for this project was completed in 2020 as a speculative warehouse in partnership with RealtyLink, LLC. Now, it is being upfitted for the needs of its new tenant, American Tire Distributors.
The facility will be 175,000 square feet of warehouse with a 4,000 square foot office. We are looking forward to the completion of this project.
We worked with Healy Construction Services on the completion of this PGA TOUR Superstore in Novi, Michigan.
Now that we are six months into 2024, we reviewed the construction trends we've observed, following early-year predictions from industry leaders.
As of mid-2024, the construction industry prioritizes sustainable building practices, smart technology, and modular construction for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The sector faces a labor shortage and rising costs due to supply chain issues but mitigates these challenges through diverse supplier networks and investments in skilled workers. Additionally, adaptive reuse of old structures and community-centric designs are significant trends shaping the industry's future.

COR3 Design, founded in 2011, initially focused on designing retail spaces for national chains like Hobby Lobby and Ross Dress for Less, expanding across multiple states. Despite diversifying into various sectors over 13 years, retail remains our primary passion. Our Project Architect, Khris, shared a few thoughts about working in the retail space.
“After a decade of working in the retail industry, I have grown to understand my clients' needs. Working closely with Hobby Lobby and PGA Tour Superstore has given me the confidence to bring new ideas and opportunities forward that follows suite with the ever-changing retail experience. And with working with nationally known stores, I take pride in telling my friends and family stores that are moving to their area that I’ve personally worked on. It allows for that personal experience to come through, directly from today’s consumers.”
