6 Things that Might Cause Dementia to Get Worse

1. Unhealthy Eating Habits
Overeating is an issue for seniors with dementia, especially those who consume a lot of junk food to handle the mental impact of the condition.
Promote healthy eating habits, including a nutritious diet full of fruits, vegetables, fatty fish, and lean meats. Seniors need to avoid processed meats, fried foods, margarine, sodas, cakes, and other items that are full of trans fats and dangerous chemicals that increase toxins such as beta-amyloid plaques in the brain. These chemicals could cause dementia symptoms to worsen and speed up cognitive decline.

2. No Physical Activity
Exercise can slow the types of cell degeneration associated with dementia and prevent many symptoms from worsening. However, living a sedentary lifestyle can affect blood pressure, which is why your parent needs to stay physically active throughout the various stages of dementia. Modify your loved one’s exercise routine based on his or her current abilities and strengths.

3. Isolation
Memory loss and reduced cognitive health can increase the odds of isolation and depression in older adults with dementia. Find ways to keep your loved one socially active and mentally stimulated. The stimulation can increase brain function, lower stress levels, and enhance mental health. Offer your loved one reassurance, and choose social activities he or she can excel at, regardless of his or her current limitations.

4. Poor Medication Management
Doctors prescribe medications to ease symptoms of dementia, but failing to follow treatment plans correctly can cause the condition to progress at a faster pace. Develop effective medication management strategies that prevent dementia from worsening and boost your loved one’s quality of life. Use medication management apps. You can also put a caregiver in charge of providing reminders for your loved one to take his or her medicine each day.

5. Lack Of Sleep
Failing to get adequate amounts of sleep can accelerate the spread of toxic clumps throughout the brain and speed up the progression of neurological conditions like dementia. By getting plenty of rest each night, the body can remove dangerous toxins, including the tau proteins that damage brain cells and interfere with internal communications.

6. Smoking
Smoking ci******es and ci**rs or using other ni****ne products could increase the risk of blood clotting in the brain, leading to strokes and other severe problems. The smoke from to***co also causes oxidative stress that damages tissues in the brain and speeds up the progression of dementia.
Your loved one should develop healthy habits to curb the desire to smoke, such as taking up meaningful hobbies, eating nutritious snacks, and joining support groups for seniors.

Keeping active and moving regularly is essential for supporting healthy bones and muscles, especially as we age. If you have hip bursitis, that means your hips are swollen and painful from the bursa being inflamed.

We all have a bursa located at different points of our body, from our knees to our shoulders, with each one having different functions. The bursa acts as a shock absorber between the bones or tendons and skin.

However, if this fluid sac becomes irritated or swollen due to an injury or other reasons, it can cause serious pain in the area. That’s why there are various hip bursitis exercises for seniors that you can do to recover faster.

5 things that can weaken your immune system!

1. Alcohol
Drinking a lot of alcohol is known to suppress our immune system.
It weakens our bodies and makes it harder to combat stress, viruses, and diseases.
Dietitians recommend sticking to one drink per day for women or two drinks per day for men.

2. Smoking
Smoking is terrible for your immune system and is damaging to your lungs. It’s so toxic to our bodies that dietitians often recommend that smokers increase their intake of vitamin C.
This is because people who smoke require additional antioxidants to combat the negative consequences

3. Processed food
Highly processed foods include chips, cookies, refined grains, and deli meats. When you eat these foods every day, you do not have as much room for foods that are more nutritious, such as fruits, vegetables, and fiber-rich grains.
Eating less of these essential nutrients can decrease the chances that your immune system will defend against illness or recover.

4. Stress
Stress causes inflammation, which has a negative impact on your immune system.
Try to do what you can to minimize stress. That could mean taking a few deep breaths when things start to feel heated or get outside and go for a walk. Getting more exercise in general is good for our blood sugar levels, our stress, and our overall health.

5. Not enough sleep
While sleep often tends to be a low priority in our busy lives, it has a huge impact on our health and ability to fight viruses and disease. It doesn’t matter if you’re old or young, it’s important to get a good night’s sleep. When we’re sleeping, our biological forces reset.
That’s when our body goes through a lot of repair and regeneration.

Remember, it’s never too late to change your lifestyle choices.
Getting outside into nature helps improve your health as well.

As your age creeps up, estrogen and muscle mass decline.
That slows your metabolism and changes the way your body stores and distributes fat, leading to gaining weight.
Lifestyle factors such as becoming more sedentary and developing sleep problems (both common as people age) can also lead to weight gain.
