🎨 Want to teach the next generation of artists in the Upstate? GCCA is now accepting Instructor Proposals for our Spring Session: April 1 – June 16, 2024. The deadline to submit a proposal is February 23, 2024.

GCCA instructors include both working artists and professional educators. We are looking for artists doing interesting work who are also excellent teachers. Our instructors possess a willingness to communicate technique and process, strong technical skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to teach classes that are open to a range of skill levels, from beginner to advanced.

Instructors are contract employees paid based on an hourly rate for the time they spend in the classroom.

MagicInTheMetal is offering TWO May 2023 classes for electrolytic etching on copper!

Location: The City Lights Collaborative
At: 112 Poinsett Highway Greenville SC 29609 (upstairs of Radio Room, entrance is on the Poinsett Highway side of the building. Parking available at the side of Dollar General.)

On May 14 I’m going to offer the etching with electricity on copper workshop from 6-8pm.

You will receive a piece of copper, approximately 1“ x 7“ to draw a design on or you can bring your own vinyl stickers if you prefer. (Vinyl seems to do the best. )

The price of the class will be $75, and you will go home with your copper piece, which can be shaped into a bracelet, or you could take a jewelers saw and cut it into smaller bits for use in jewelry making if you’d like.

On May 28 I’m going to offer the same class, however it’ll be one hour longer and I will also additionally teach you how to print an image in black-and-white onto paper and transfer it onto your metal prior to our etching.

That class is one hour longer and it will last from 5 PM until 8 PM and the price to attend that one will be $100.
If you’d like to come for 6pm to 8pm to skip the transfer part, you can pay $75.

20% of all monies will go to fund city lights, collaborative.

This long awaited celebration of “Fire, Arts and Fashion!” is returning to Greenville SC on November 19th, 2022! After several years of hiatus in respect to the pandemic, we are all excited that Artistry is bringing back one of Greenville’s favorite festivals, in full force! This year, you’ll see a runway fashion show featuring returning special guest Ellen Durkan, metalworking dressmaker and designer / owner of Iron Maiden Forge. Artistry’s owners Ryan and Amy Calloway will be offering additional fine art in the gallery, live blacksmith demonstrations, glass blowing demonstrations, and an entire evening of interesting performances, live music and dancing!

Come wear your finest fashion in the theme of “Outer Space!” and join Artistry and Ellen and multiple other artists in a delightful evening in celebration of Fire Arts, and Greenville’s most eclectic annual runway fashion show! Support West Greenville Arts!!!!!

Magic In The Metal will be vending for the first time in several years, at The Carolina Bauernhaus, on Saturday October 15th! Hand-formed with hammers and modified chisels and hand tools, artist Janet Cevelin works sheets of metal into three-dimensional artworks by use of ancient skills, that allow her work to emulate an archaeological feel.
Janet Cevelin works in many mediums, but has continued to be fascinated with silver (both pure and sterling), copper, cedar, fine gems as well as fossil relics. She particularly loves ancient creative processes, modernized, like her favorite process, called chasing and repousse!
“I attempt to pull the dimensions to the surface as I work the metal, allowing the mystery to become revealed, and a form to birth into our time,” says Janet. Magic In The Metal will also be offering limited live metalworking demonstrations and offering the public the chance to sign up for educational workshops for beginners level metals processes! Come join us this awesome evening as we meet several never-before-seen artists and also, several talented folks who just recently moved to our area! Super your local artists, and let’s build up and embrace our funky West Greenville Arts District!
