🌟 Honored and Grateful 🌟

This weekend, I was surprised with the Executive of the Year Award from Black Folks Camp Too at their anniversary Campout. BFCT is dedicated to fostering Unity in the outdoor community. When I ventured into this industry, I was warmly welcomed by Earl Hunter, Jr. He embraced me with open arms, and we've since collaborated on various projects, with more exciting initiatives in the pipeline. But beyond that, Earl has been an incredible friend and sounding board.

BFCT's mission revolves around spreading the message of "you are invited and welcomed." They tirelessly work with numerous partners to turn this vision into reality. Earl consistently emphasizes the "too" in Black Folks Camp Too, highlighting that it's not only about one group but building bonds and relationships around the campfire with people from diverse backgrounds.

Receiving this award is a profound honor for me, and I'm truly thankful. It symbolizes the unity and inclusivity we aim to achieve in the outdoor industry. I look forward to continuing this incredible journey alongside Earl and the entire BFCT team. Together, we'll make sure everyone feels that they belong in the great outdoors. 🏕️🌄

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the historic March on Washington and Women's Equality Day. A powerful reminder of the strides we've made towards justice, unity, and gender equality. Let's continue to stand together, uplift voices, and build a future that honors the legacy of those who marched before us.

I had an incredible time attending Camp Winnebago and hosting the panel session "The Outdoors: Always Room for More." I was joined by panelists Tony Mikes from Winnebago and Tyrell McElroy from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, we delved into the beauty of nature and its boundless opportunities, barriers to entry, and shared tips on how to encourage more people to RV.

I met people who felt like family from the moment I arrived. Sharing meals together and swapping stories made it clear that the great outdoors has a magical way of bringing people together.

One of my favorite experiences was hearing love stories from couples who've been happily married for 30, 40, and over 50 years. Their stories were a testament to the enduring power of nature and its ability to nurture relationships.

Until next year, when we once again embrace the outdoors and revel in its splendor at .

📢 Excited to share, recently, I updated my headshot with my new sister locks, and I couldn't be happier with the result. The process of getting sister locks, 26 hours over 2 days, was truly transformative and empowering. It's not just a hairstyle change, but a statement of embracing my roots and embracing my authentic self.

Professionally, it has given me the freedom to express my identity without any reservations. It's empowering to walk into meetings and networking events with confidence, knowing that my hair reflects who I am and my cultural heritage. It sends a strong message about embracing diversity and breaking barriers.

On a personal level, the journey of getting sister locks has been one of self-discovery and acceptance. It's a reminder to love every aspect of myself and be unapologetically me. The process may have been long, but the personal growth and sense of freedom it has brought are priceless.

I encourage everyone to embrace their uniqueness and let it shine through. Let's celebrate our individuality and support each other's journeys toward personal and professional freedom!

The tragic murder of George Floyd is a heart-wrenching reminder of the work that lies ahead. 3 years later…despite the pain, I encourage all of us to hold onto hope and remain steadfast in our efforts to remove barriers and foster a better future.

It is easy to succumb to despair or anger. However, I implore each of us to embrace the power of resilience and collective action. Let us recognize the vital role we play in shaping the future for the next generation. By educating, supporting, and empowering our children, we equip them to become compassionate leaders and catalysts for change.

Progress goes beyond individual conversations—it requires a collective commitment to dismantling systemic structures that perpetuate discrimination. Together, we must challenge prejudice, advocate for justice, and foster inclusive environments. Let us amplify the voices of the marginalized and actively work towards a society where equality reigns supreme.

Join me in this ongoing journey towards a brighter future. Let us break down barriers, support marginalized communities, and build workplaces that embrace diversity and empathy. Our collective efforts today will pave the way for a more just and inclusive world for generations to come. With hope in our hearts and determination in our actions, we can make a difference and move from tragedy to triumph.

Honoring Black History Makers past and present!

Black Folks Camp Too is changing the world one campfire at a time. When founder Earl B. Hunter, a former Executive in the RV industry, took his son Dillon on an epic 3-month-long camping road trip across the USA and Canada, and saw precisely ONE other African American family camping, his mission became clear: to share the joys of camping with any and everyone, especially Black folks. The campfire in BFCT’s logo, also known as the Unity Blaze, is a symbol of his mission and represents the goal to “treat everyone, everywhere, equally”. We’re proud to partner with Black Folks Camp Too because we believe when we go all in outdoors, everyone wins.

I am beyond frustrated, angry, and sad. People with power should not abuse that power and use it to inflict violence on others. I think of all the black men I love and care for deeply. My heart hurts. My anxiety has increased. For those of you who may have similar feelings and thoughts, I see you. To employers, managers, and supervisors of black employees please know that many of us are not ok. We continue to deal with the trauma and PTSD of seeing unarmed black men murdered. And later televised. Make space for healing, show compassion and empathy, and know that even if we don’t verbally express ourselves, your care, concern, and more importantly your actions are valued and needed.

In the spring of 1999 I was honored to join the most service-oriented, community-driven and politically active sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The first public act of the sorority by our founders was participation in the march for women's suffrage on March 3, 1913 down Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC. Today, January 13, 2023, we celebrate our founders for 110 years of sisterhood, scholarship, service and social action. Happy Founders Day to all my Sorors!

💡Did you know the National Pan-Hellenic Council also known as the Divine Nine is a great source for recruiting talent?

At the start of the 20th century, a small number of Black students came together from mainly Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to form their own sororities and fraternities. These organizations are known collectively as the National Pan-Hellenic Council or the “Divine Nine”. Each of these organizations were established with unique core values but shared a common goal: to educate and uplift the Black community from racial inequities.

Below is a list of the sororities and fraternities, who include collegiate members (great candidates for internships) and alumnae members (great candidates for open roles from early career to C-suite executives); currently representing over 1.5 million members internationally

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Founded 1906, Cornell University

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Founded 1908, Howard University

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Founded 1911, Indiana University

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Founded 1911, Howard University

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Founded 1913, Howard University

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Founded 1914, Howard University

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Founded 1920, Howard University

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Founded 1922, Butler University

The United States just hit Equal Pay Day for Black women! Last year, the day was marked on August 3.

Today, September 21 marks , the day of the year on which the median earnings of a working Black woman will have caught up to the median 2021 annual earnings of a non-Latino White man.

The pay gap is not about a single paycheck. Over the course of the average Black woman’s career, the lost income adds up to almost a million dollars compared to white men.

It’s 2022 and this should not be a reality‼️Black women deserve fair pay. It’s time to close the gap.
