“First Due” is a software suite we’re implementing at Wade Hampton Fire Department to help deploy manpower and equipment. It allows us to let crews know what is happening where and who is doing what. It was developed by a firefighter in the Northeast who looked throughout the public safety software market and didn’t see the type of integrations he knew fire departments needed in the field and in the office. It’s a great example of American innovation happening because someone saw a need that wasn’t being met and an ability to create it hadn’t been stymied by unnecessary regulation.

Our training never stops. We constantly train to keep our skills sharp. This week, we’ve gotten to do it with our family at the Greenville City Fire Department — participating in a joint training for high angle rescue.
