Learning never stops, and neither does training. We constantly work to make sure our skills stay sharp. Yesterday B-Shift trained with live fire exercises and search & rescue.

“First Due” is a software suite we’re implementing at Wade Hampton Fire Department to help deploy manpower and equipment. It allows us to let crews know what is happening where and who is doing what. It was developed by a firefighter in the Northeast who looked throughout the public safety software market and didn’t see the type of integrations he knew fire departments needed in the field and in the office. It’s a great example of American innovation happening because someone saw a need that wasn’t being met and an ability to create it hadn’t been stymied by unnecessary regulation.

🔥🚒 Important Reminder: Don't forget to Check Your Detectors as we Fall Back! 🍂🕰

As we wait on fall to arrive (for good) and turn back our clocks for that extra hour of sleep, the Wade Hampton Fire Department wants to remind you about a crucial safety routine. It's time to check the batteries on your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors!

Here's why this small task is so important:

🔋 Battery Check: Smoke and CO detectors rely on batteries to function. Regularly testing and replacing these batteries is the simplest way to ensure they're always ready to alert you in case of danger.

🚨 Early Detection: Smoke and carbon monoxide are silent, odorless threats that can quickly become life-threatening. Working detectors give you those precious extra moments to escape safely in an emergency.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Safety: Your family's safety is a top priority. Make sure your detectors are functioning optimally to provide that early warning system your loved ones depend on.

🏠 Property Protection: Fire and carbon monoxide incidents can lead to devastating property damage. Properly working detectors can minimize damage and save you from costly repairs.

It only takes a few minutes to test your detectors and replace any expired batteries, so before you go to bed tonight, take a moment to ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working order.

The Wade Hampton Fire Department is here to help if you have any questions or need guidance on maintenance. Let's keep our community safe, one small action at a time.

If you’ve seen Wade Hampton trucks in the community (not on an emergency call), you may have said to yourself, “Good grief! They’re everywhere. Every time I look, there’s a Wade Hampton crew.”

You’re not too far off.

It’s important that we’re in the community. Not only do we work here, we live here, and we want the community to see us.

Recently, you may have seen…
* B-Shift E86 and SQ86 at Lake Forest Elementary School.
* B-Shift E86, SQ86, L88 and Batt86 at Chick-fil-A’s Fall Festival and Cow Drop.
* B-Shift E88 at Greenville First Church of the Nazarene’s Trunk or Treat event.
* B-Shift E87 at Seacoast Church’s Trunk or Treat.

We’re also out in the community because that’s where YOU are, and we want you to get to know us in case you ever need us.

We are all Wade Hampton.

We hope everyone has a happy Halloween.

Grownups, please pay attention as you're driving through neighborhoods with trick-or-treaters out and about.

Kids, save some candy for your grownups. They wanted to go trick-or-treating, too.

Kids and grownups, follow these tips to stay safe this Halloween.

The Wade Hampton Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) — the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week (FPW) for more than 100 years — to promote this year’s FPW campaign, “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.” The campaign works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take when cooking to keep themselves and those around them safe.

According to NFPA, cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries in the United States. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of cooking fires and deaths.

Wade Hampton Fire Department offers these key safety tips to help reduce the risk of a cooking fire.

1. Watch what you heat. Always keep a close eye on what you are cooking. Set a timer to remind you that you are cooking.

2. Turn pot handles toward the back of the stove. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner.

3. Have a “kid- and pet-free zone” of at least 3 feet around the stove or grill and anywhere else hot food or drink is prepared or carried.

For more general information about Fire Prevention Week and cooking safety, visit www.fpw.org. For fire safety fun for kids, visit sparky.org.

Our training never stops. We constantly train to keep our skills sharp. This week, we’ve gotten to do it with our family at the Greenville City Fire Department — participating in a joint training for high angle rescue.

Our promise was “Never Forget,” and we’re keeping it.

Wade Hampton fire personnel put on their turnout gear Saturday to participate in the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Fluor Field.

343 firefighters lost their lives on 9/11 and this stair climb, equivalent to the 110 stories of the World Trade Center, is a tribute to those fallen heroes.

343 firefighters and medics. 23 NYPD officers. 37 Port Authority police officers. 2977 innocent victims. Never forget.
