The Royal Highland fusiliers had the best crew in Greenville. So proud of them., they did a fantastic job and the kitchen crew too.

I heard the guys ironing their kilts to look their best. The only Scottish word you have to learn is "Slàinte Mhath," which means "Cheers to Your Health." The weather will be beautiful, and again, please carpool so other people can enjoy this special event.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, at 3:45, the battle starts. We upgraded the screen in the outdoor bar. Of course the screen at the palm trees. We got it. The only place with German beer from the tap in steins, big pretzels, and in a Biergarten. It can not get any better. See you at Hans&Franz, please carpool so others can park too.

The place where it doesn't cost you a rib to be special for Valentine.

Part of the decorations are still up and we still serve gluhwein.

Today we have a special oriental treat at Hans&Franz Biergarten called Loempia almost like an eggroll on steroids. A popular dish in Holland. Filled with sauteed vegetables and chicken. They are HUGE. Another one is Shepherds Pie well to be precise Cottage pie. We use beef instead of lamb. Remember we make only a few of the features that make them so special. Did I tell you we also still serve Gluhwein?

Two customers, Chris and kevin took the initiative to call the new owner of the building about the awing and they took it down. We found a new home for it and you will be amazed, No not the court house.

01/31/2023

There is always some good news. Nina won her battle with cancer sofar. Hans&Franz became Addys on steroids, and we still do many dishes from Addys. We own the building, we have our own parking lot, free parking. and beautiful tropical outside and very reasonable prices, special if you compare them now with Downtown. It takes about 20 minutes to drive from Downtown. Thats what it takes to find a parking spot in Downtown and get to your destination and you spend already $$$$ on parking before you ordered anything. So its well worth the drive.

I have this close this FB site soon, no sence to keep it open and watch pictures of the past and see what's going on now. Very sad. Maybe keep it open for the next generation to show what we had in Downtown and what bad judgment can do.

Photos from Addys Dutch Cafe & Restaurant's post 01/31/2023

So what's going on with Addys after the total good old boy, judgment. It's going to be a country club. Just what we needed. Thank you, Judge. You did Downtown a favor by allowing this. the people downtown and investors who pay these high prices for condos got finally a country club. Got my cowboy hat ready. We were all waiting for that. Thank you again, Judge and your buddy the slum lord who made a killing on the BS he told you and you went for. And your professional experience and law schooling. Yes, it was Corona who did this. See you soon riding the mechanical bull.

My Dear Friends,
It's been five long, grueling, tearful, but mostly laughter-filled days at Addy's sell-off of restaurant equipment, artifacts, and mementos. Many came to pay their final respects to a place that held great memories for them. Addy's was as reliable in the background of their conscientiousness as breathing. There had never NOT been an Addy's. Some had their first legal beer at Addy's. Some were apologetic that their young, evolving life had taken them down paths that no longer allowed for the carefree days they'd enjoyed at Addy's---before the marriage, the kids, the job---as evidenced by the carousel of photos scrolled on their phone. Many were long-time regular customers who had patiently awaited the planned re-opening of Addy's. They were just as devastated as we are that it will never be. Some pushed strollers and held their children's hands as they came to pay homage to the place they'd met their lifelong partner. Some had never been a patron of Addy's, but were drawn to the “oracle” by the urban myth-type legend it had become. They had to cross the threshold.
Many ex-employees from the “early days” as well as more recent employees came to pay respects to a place they learned so much about the restaurant business---but mostly about life in general. You see, the restaurant business, more than most, is comprised of people with totally diverse life experiences---from the privileged, just passing through on the way to their professional careers---to the disenfranchised whose lives are hard-scrabble and without direction. The restaurant business “levels the playing field” and for those with open minds, much can be learned about life. It was so nice that we were visited by many ex-employees who treasure Addy's and also feel the loss.
We, the owners of Addy's for 33 years ( That’s already very remarkable for being in Business that long ), would like to thank you ALL for taking the effort to make a last personal visit to chat with us in the place that obviously held meaning for you, This gives us great resolve that although we lost our business we fought hard for, Addy's mission and purpose were vastly fulfilled. Addy's brought people together in a spirit of love and respect---and isn't loving others what life is really about anyway? This gives us much satisfaction to know how important Addy's was in the lives of so many of you. Thank you all for reaching out to us and showing us that through Addy's, we had achieved far more than we ever thought. Our mission is complete.
We'd especially like to thank Melissa Plumbley, our last great chef at Addy's. Melissa committed her whole day off (from Eggs Up Grill in Powdersville, where she manages) to help us with the sale of items from the restaurant, allowing us time to talk with those who stopped by to see us. Melissa made our day a lot less stressful. Also, we'd like to thank Sherry Wood, who helped us tremendously to clear out and organize the accumulation of 33 years. Without her help, this would have been overwhelming!
So, here we are---the end of an era. Those of you who remember the downtown of 1989 also know how important Addy's was to the development of today's downtown. From our jazz festivals, an early street festival to the establishment of evening dinner service accompanied by cocktails, imported beers, and live jazz, Addy's energized a lifeless but hopeful downtown.
Many thanks to ALL of you who made Addy's what it was. Thank you also for all your generous donations. You will all live on in our memories and hearts. It was an honor and privilege to know you. As we say in The Netherlands—Tot Ziens –(we'll see you soon).
From now on, you can find me at my other restaurant--- Hans & Franz Biergarten on Hwy. 14 in Greenville. Hope to see you there!

Now the sad news.
My dear friends,
If you've followed my Facebook posts in recent years, you know it's always been my intention to get Addy's reopened once again. The past few years have been very difficult in every way—first, my hip surgery to repair a broken hip, then Nina's serious illness that took 100% commitment to around-the-clock care to get her where she is today---alive and well! Understandably, re-opening the restaurant had to take a back seat until our lives became more stable.

A little over a week before the planned re-opening in 2020, the oof at Addy's had a major leak. This was reported to our landlord. Over time and because the leak was not swiftly repaired, the leak created major damage. The building was no longer suitable to run a restaurant until extensive repairs were done. Even the landlord sent us an email stating the building had undergone “complete destruction”, and suspended payment of rent until the repairs were done. He estimated repairs would be done by July 1st. Obviously, we did not open in July because the repairs were NOT done. ( roof is stilll leaking ) Instead, we were brought into a lawsuit with the landlord, because we withheld paying the rent. The condition of the building today is the same as it was then—complete and utter destruction. We were ordered to pay the monthly rent to go into a bond account until the decision of the court was made. We've continued paying rent for over 2 years (the courts shut down because of covid) until this month.

Finally, our trial came up last month. We were astonished and devastated that we lost. What makes it so difficult to accept is that the court's decision was not even based on the facts of the case. In fact, we really didn't get the opportunity to even properly present our case. The courts are backed up and there's just not enough time for justice.

Anyway, it's all over now. We were given 30 days to remove everything from Addy's. It took a huge emotional toll on us, dismantling a business that was so personal and we had so much love for. Our 30 days is almost up. That's where YOU come in.

We need your help. We'll be open for a limited time this week for those who would like to come by one last time, select a token or a fine imported beer to take home, in exchange for a donation to help us with our considerable legal fees. We spent so much money to try to keep Addy's going and now could use some financial help from those of you who appreciated Addy's throughout the years. Believe me, we tried so hard to keep it going, but it's no longer possible. We need help. Any and all donations would be most appreciated. Most of all, we'd like to see you in Addy's one last time.

We'll miss you all. For many of you, lifelong friendships were made there. Some met their future husband or wife there. Weddings were celebrated, lost lives given their final “salute”, accomplishments were “toasted”, politics vigorously debated, writers conjured their next story, ministers wrote their sermons, baby photos were “ogled”, vacation photos shown, in short, the spectrum of what life is about passed before our eyes. Nina and I would like to thank each and every one of you for being a part of the “Addy's family” and especially for allowing me and Nina to be a part of your lives. We love you all.

So please watch Addy's Facebook for the exact times Addy's will be open on Thursday, Nov.10, Friday, Nov. 11 or Saturday, Nov. 12. for you to come in, select your token, and leave a small donation. Most of all, we'd just like to see your face one last time in Addy's.
