Next Saturday, June 15th at 11:00 AM, the Foothills Philharmonic will be presenting its first of two Summer Pops concerts. As always, admission is FREE.

The performance will be at the City of Greer Center for the Arts, which just happens to have ample space and benches for picnicking inside the beautiful sculpture garden behind the building. If a picnic isn't your speed (or the weather turns nasty) the venue is close proximity to beautiful downtown Greer, which is full of tasty lunch spots.

The music will feature light popular tunes and there is guaranteed to be something for everyone!

Special thanks to the City of Greer, SC - Government for sponsoring this concert.

This Saturday, the Foothills Philharmonic will be presenting their annual pops concert. Starting at 6 pm there will be an instrument petting zoo in the lobby where young musicians-in-training will have a chance to try various instruments from the strings, brass, wind, and percussion families. This is open to all school-age children, there will be a member of the orchestra at each station handling instruments and giving pointers. For each instrument they try, the participant will be given a slip of paper to write their name on. These slips will be put into a container; during the concert one lucky person will be chosen to conduct our final number of the night!

There will be music from both the 21st and 20th centuries, movies, musicals, TV shows, etc... so be sure to come and find out what we feature this year!

This Saturday, 04.13 at 7 PM Foothills orchestra members will present selections of music for small ensembles. These pieces have been picked and prepared by the musicians with absolutely no supervision from the orchestra itself so there is bound to be something on the program for everyone! Be on the lookout for a gaggle of violas to take the concert hall by storm... this concert is FREE and will be held at the City of Greer Center for the Arts.

As with all of our Spotlight Chamber Series concerts we will be collecting donations for and highlighting the work of GreerRelief GR in the lobby before the concert. Please see the second picture for a list of their most needed items.

On Saturday, March 23rd the Foothills Philharmonic will be presenting their third Masterworks concert of the season. This concert will feature a lesser known symphony composed by Josef Suk, a pupil of Dvořák, which he wrote in response to the death of not only his mentor, Dvořák, but also his wife, who happened to also be Dvořák's daughter. The work is subtitled 'Asrael [angel of death]' and portrays many different aspects of the grieving process, ending with a state of acceptance and resolve. It will surely be a great night of music!

For this concert we will be highlighting the work of New Horizon Family Health Services, make sure to check them out in the lobby before the concert. They will be setup at least an hour before the concert starts.

This concert is also a part of Upstate International's International Month during the month of March, which seeks to promote cross-cultural experiences. Make sure to check out the rest of their offerings this month!

Our very own Foothills Philharmonic String Quartet will be performing Shostakovich's String Quartet no. 8 in C minor on Saturday, February 17th at 7 PM. This work features five continuous movements that are all based on Shostakovich's signature musical motif. This concert is FREE, as are all of our concerts.

As part of our Spotlight Chamber series, this concert will be held at our second performance venue, the City of Greer Center for the Arts, and will feature our community partner for the series, Greer Relief & Resources Agency, Inc..

Greer Relief will have an informational booth in the lobby before the performance where you can learn more about the organization and the work they do in the Upstate. They also request, if you are able, to bring an item from the flyer attached to this post to support them in their mission.

*UPDATE* As part of the Greer Centennial Lions Club mission, make sure to bring old and unused eyeglasses for collection! These will be repurposed for those who can't afford them.

Foothills is BACK

Well... most of us anyways. While our woodwinds, brass, and percussion are in the middle of their yearly hibernation the strings are diligently preparing a wonderful lineup of strings-only tunes! Although the concert is strings only you'll struggle to find things in common with our featured composers... this will truly be a variety show.

We will be highlighting the work of Greer Centennial Lions Club at this concert, make sure to stop by their booth in the lobby before the concert to learn more about the volunteer work they do in the Upstate.

Foothills would like to publicly thank three of our volunteers who have given selflessly to promote the mission of our organization. At our latest donor luncheon we gave two awards to members of our community.

B Mark Southerland is the recipient of our volunteer award given to a non-orchestra member of the Foothills Phil. community. Mark would love to play (and we would love to have him) in the orchestra however he plays saxophone, an instrument not normally featured in the symphony orchestra literature. Instead, Mark selflessly supports the orchestra with his time; helping set up for concerts, bringing friends and family to concerts, and by always asking 'What can I do next?'

Ted and Mary Gentry received our Pete and Sally Potosky award this year. This award recognizes any individual(s) who contributes to our organization constantly, over a long period of time. The Gentry's started out as volunteers until we were able to convince Ted to join us as our principal bassoon player... after that followed many years of collaboration between their family and our community with support coming in the form of time, monetary contributions, and musicality.

We would like to now thank ALL of the members of our community for giving so much to us and making what we do possible. Be on the lookout for details on our upcoming concerts! Visit www.foothillsphilharmonic.org for complete information on the organization.

FP’s very own Kory Vrieze and Riley Ragsdale Henderson spent this afternoon at Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce’s nonprofit showcase.

The event was an excellent opportunity for Foothills, and the other Greer area nonprofits we partner with, to explain our missions to Greer business leaders.

Although we want you to support Foothills, the work we do wouldn’t be possible without these other community organizations and the support of the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce. Make sure to check your local nonprofits out and consider volunteering!
