Waste Not Want Not.
Meet Bright Feeds, the cutting-edge solution to food waste you need to know more about.

Waste Not Want Not Meet Bright Feeds - Fairfield County Look It’s been 53 years since the first Earth Day, for many of us growing up in the early 70s, mealtime was infused with parental cajoling cliches like “waste not want not” and “eat everything on your plate, there are starving children in Africa.” Wasting food was egregious.

CT Legislature is considering waste prevention bills:
HB6481
HB6606
HB6608
These bills will:
- Ease municipalities waste management budgets
- Protect human health
- Protect wildlife
- Protect the environment
- Protect the communities where plastics are sourced, processed, buried and burned.
- Reduce the number of pollutants you pick up on beach, waterway and green space clean ups.
Ask your CT legislators to support these bills.
Skip the Stuff bill reducing unnecessary single use plastic waste - Intro 559-A - was signed today in NYC!
This bill will prohibit restaurants and food delivery platforms from providing eating utensils, extra eating containers, condiment packets and napkins to@customers for take-out and delivery orders. Unless specifically asked for by customers.
Congratulations !
“This is a common sense public policy that’s helps both the restaurants bottom line and the environment in the fight against climate change” said NYC Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Kevin D. Kim
Half of global plastic production is for single-use applications, and only 14% of plastic packaging is collected for recycling. Even vastly improved rates alone would not be enough to curb the plastic waste crisis.
🐳🐳🐳
The shift towards reuse is still in its early stages, but there is growing ambition from the public and the private sector to advance it as an alternative to single-use, as it holds the key to achieving a world free of plastic waste.
🐳🐳🐳
Local, State and National policies can accelerate the transition to reusable packaging formats but governments, businesses and civil society organizations must work together to create clear targets and action plans.

Single use plastic waste “management” is a $$$ problem for cities and harmful to the health of our cities, residents, habitats and eco systems.
Don’t continue to “mis-manage” this useless waste, stop it before it starts.
Greenwich tackled plastic bag use in 2018, loopholes were closed.
Now let’s stop the styrofoam!

5 ideas to make your thoughtful gift giving more mindful.
Is It the Thought that Counts or the Presentation? Is It the Thought that Counts or the Presentation? 5 Wrapping Ideas for the Eco-Minded Gift Giver By Jeanine Behr Getz The holiday season can be an exciting time of the year, there’s nothing like the thrill of racing (for some of us, sauntering with a cup of coffee) downstairs to the wonderment of...
The Story of Stuff Project has been thinking a lot recently about what it means to act like a citizen, or a community member or human being, rather than a consumer.
No doubt that’s because it’s that time of year when we’re pushed to flex our consumer muscles by spending a ton of money on things we don’t really need.
Maybe you’ve been asking yourself the same question: are we going to spend another holiday season buying more Stuff?
Or might we say NO to a value system based on waste and overconsumption and focus instead on togetherness, sharing and hope?
In some ways, the global economy has answered that question for us.
As you’ve probably heard, we’re in the midst of a massive supply chain crisis, and everything from consumer goods like TVs and throw pillows to necessities like food and medicine are held up at ports and distribution centers for weeks, if not months.
In fact, in the first half of 2021, global supply chain disruptions increased by a jaw-dropping 638%.
The coronavirus pandemic continues to teach us hard but important lessons: about the importance of public health, essential workers, social safety nets -- and now, the fragility of a globalized economy dominated by multinational corporations trying to maximize profits at any cost.

What are we giving our children?
Did you know: an average Elementary (K-5) school with roughly 450 students in the U.S. would spend about $6,000 on 81,000 polystyrene foam trays every year if they served one meal per student every school day? 💰
If you stacked those trays on top of one another... they would be as tall as a 40-story building 🏙

Businesses on board with reusables!
Reusable cup trial at six McDonalds in the UK.
The hope is to roll reusable cup program out to all 1,300 restaurants in the UK and eventually the 36,000 globally.
McDonald’s bosses in the US are eagerly watching - and hope it will be a key plank in their bid to cut waste.
The UK is leading the way in reusable packaging.
Loop’s Stephen Clarke added: “If we can make reusable cups and packaging go to scale, as we hope, then waste management will become more about cleaning than recycling, incineration or landfill. You will have washing and cleaning centres all over the UK instead.”
Northampton franchisee Perry Akhtar said: “It’s great to see McDonald’s trialling a solution that will mean less packaging given to our customers. I hope this will keep Northampton litter free.”
The move will help reduce the 2.5billion single-use coffee cups that go to landfill in the UK each year.

Starbucks has launched a limited trial of “Borrow A Cup," a program which provides customers the option to order their beverage in a reusable cup and return it at the store’s contactless kiosk or at-home through a Seattle-area service called Ridwell.
According to Starbucks, a reusable cup replaces up to 30 disposable cups.
Here’s how it works: for a $1 refundable deposit, customers can order their hot or cold beverage in a newly designed reusable cup at a participating Starbucks café when customers finish their beverage, they scan the cup at the store’s contactless return kiosk or drive-thru and drop the cup in the kiosk.
Then, they scan their Starbucks app to receive a $1 credit to their Starbucks rewards account, in addition to receiving 10 bonus points.
Starbucks has partnered with Ridwell, which offers a home pick-up service for reusable and hard to recycle items, to give customers a second option for returning their borrowed cup. Ridwell customers can place their reusable Starbucks cup in a custom, reusable cup bag and place it in their Ridwell bin for pickups from their front door.
The cups are professionally cleaned and sterilized after each use.
In a related move, Starbucks will eliminate all single-use cups from its stores in South Korea by 2025.
