The hip joint is a very stable ball and socket joint, due to the deep socket (acetabulum) that almost fully encloses the femoral head. The hip is able to flex, extend, abduct, adduct, and internally and externally rotate.
Common imbalances:
Trendelenburg Gait: Hip Abductors like the gluteus medius, don’t function properly and the pelvis tilts to the unsupported side during gait (walking).
Sciatica: The sciatic nerve gets compressed and causes pain and discomfort down the leg.
Anterior Pelvic Tilt: Hip flexor muscles are tight and hip extensors like the glutes are weak causing the superior pelvis to tilt forward.
Posterior Pelvic: Hamstring muscles are tight and the hip flexors are weak causing the superior pelvis to tilt backwards.
The human shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body.
This mobility provides the upper extremity with tremendous range of motion such as adduction, abduction, flexion, extension, internal rotation, external rotation, and 360° circumduction in the sagittal plane. Furthermore, the shoulder allows for scapular protraction, retraction, elevation, and depression.
This wide range of motion also makes the shoulder joint unstable. This instability is compensated for by rotator cuff muscles, tendons, ligaments, and the glenoid labrum.
Most Common Injuries to the Shoulder:
-Tendon Inflammation
-Tendon Tear
-Instability
-Impingement
Here at Combine Training we always incorporate various prehab exercises to promote joint health especially the shoulder due to its vulnerability!

Trip started working out at Combine in February, 4 weeks after undergoing surgery for a broken ankle sustained during a hockey game. While working out in a boot, he focused on core and upper body strength until he was cleared for full body workout months later. This summer he came back stronger than ever, taking 3 seconds off his 50 free and 7 seconds off his 50 fly to finish 3rd and 4th respectively in age groups at Westchester County Swim Conferences. Trip largely attributes his strong comeback to the work he did at Combine during the many months of recovery.
There isn't anything better than reading a letter from a parent like this. What she didn't say is that the kid is a beast and he never once pouted or complained about his injury or about missing his season. He just got to work double time on the things he could control.
Hard work always wins!
