When you heal the gut, you can expect a wide range of health benefits that extend beyond just digestive health.  The microbiota-gut-brain axis is a fascinating and complex network of communication pathways that connect the gut microbiome and the brain.
Here are some key points about this axis and its impact on health:
Bidirectional Communication: The microbiota-gut-brain axis involves two-way communication, meaning the brain can influence gut function, and the gut microbiota can affect brain function. This communication is mediated through several systems. Healing the gut can improve comprehensive health, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced gut microbiome.
Unlock the secrets to optimal health and longevity with our comprehensive stool analysis, designed to provide invaluable insights into your gut-brain connection and pave the way for a healthier, longer life. https://nancyguberti.com/heal-the-gut-brain-connection/

You are what you eat so whenever possible go with the toxic free or less toxic version. This olive oil tastes great! This is Not a sponsored ad 😎 I was just so happy to see that the olive oil that we use is a good one. You never know until some company actually starts doing lab testing on the products. Phthalate exposure has also been linked to a higher risk of breast cancer and infertility outcomes in women. Prenatal exposure to these chemicals can also lead to learning, attention and behavioral disorders in children, according to a 2021 study in the American Journal of Public Health . The researchers looked at data on more than 5,000 adults in the U.S. They found that those between 55 and 64 years old with the highest levels of phthalates in their urine were more likely to die of heart disease than those with lower levels. Take Probiotic Supplements
I love high-quality probiotics! It would help if you considered taking a high-quality probiotic supplement; always check with your medical doctor before starting any new supplement. Look for a probiotic that contains multiple strains of bacteria and a high CFU (colony-forming units) count.
Nearly 4 million Americans take probiotics to support their gut health. However, choosing a high-quality probiotic supplement can take time due to market saturation. Better yet, don’t guess, but get tested. Did you know that the Comprehensive Stool Analysis will analyze which strains of bacteria you currently have and which beneficial strains would be best for you? That is as personalized of a test as you can get!
Probiotics are beneficial microorganisms that play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy gut microbiome. Here are some of the most researched probiotic strains and their benefits: https://nancyguberti.com/healing-your-gut-with-probiotics/

Gut health is essential for overall wellness, impacting everything from digestion and immune function to mental health. Your diet plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the gut barrier. Some foods can increase the risk of leaky gut by weakening tight junctions or irritating the intestinal lining. In contrast, diets rich in fiber and other nutrients support gut health and help maintain the strength of the intestinal barrier, preventing permeability issues. Improving your diet is the most important step in enhancing overall gut health. The foods we consume are directly linked to our microbiome and can help offset dysbiosis. Focusing on a diet of real, whole foods and minimizing the intake of foods detrimental to gut health is essential, regardless of the specific diet you follow. Improving gut health is indeed pivotal for overall wellness, and diet plays a significant role in shaping the gut microbiome and maintaining the integrity of the intestinal barrier. By focusing on a balanced, real food meals and minimizing harmful foods, you can significantly improve your gut health and, consequently, your overall well-being. Food will either be medicinal or toxic to your total wellness of mind and body. https://nancyguberti.com/lifestyle-factors-that-impact-the-gut/

The connection between the gut and the brain, often called the gut-brain axis, is a complex and bidirectional communication system that influences various aspects of health, including mental well-being.
Here’s how these two seemingly remote areas of the body interact and the significant role of gut bacteria in this relationship:
Physical Connection: The Vagus Nerve
The brain physically connects to the digestive system through the vagus nerve, the longest of the twelve cranial nerves. This nerve links the intestines’ enteric nervous system (ENS) to the central nervous system (CNS). The ENS, also known as the “second brain,” is a vast network of neurons in the gut that controls digestive processes and operates independently of the Central Nervous system. However, it communicates with the CNS via the vagus nerve. This nerve is crucial for regulating unconscious bodily functions such as heart rate and digestion.
The human gut microbiome, which consists of trillions of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms, plays a crucial role in many aspects of health, including mental health and cognitive function.

The brain-gut connection: is stress impacting your gut?

The ‘gut feelings’ you may feel when you’re stressed are not ‘all in your head’ – in fact, they’re connected to your head! These physical triggers are your body’s way of letting you know it’s not in a relaxed state.

The gut is more sensitive than you think so it reacts to emotions like anger, anxiety, sadness and even joy by making you feel queasy or have an urgent need to use the toilet before things get messy! It’s not a coincidence when a stressful event in your life coincides with an emergency trip to the bathroom.

Here are some practical tips and techniques you can incorporate into your life to manage your stress and gut function.
Check your pulse
You may not think this is important, but stress isn’t always obvious. Something as simple as a quick pulse can be a strong indicator of your mental state.

Resting heart rates can vary from person to person based on factors like age, medications, smoking, caffeine intake, and more. A normal resting heart rate can range between 60-100 beats per minute (bpm) unless you’re an athlete, in which case your bpm will usually be under the 60bpm mark!
If your resting heart rate is consistently over 80 bpm without any existing medical conditions, this may mean you’re under stress.

How can stress show up in your life?
We’ve already explored the idea that stress can be silent and not immediately obvious. Here’s a quick look at what stress can ‘look and feel’ like in your life.

If you recognize some of these ‘symptoms’ of chronic stress in yourself, it’s time to take a closer look at your diet and lifestyle. Unchecked stress in your life can ultimately affect your immune system in the long term.

Leaky gut syndrome, also known as increased intestinal permeability, damages the small intestine’s lining, allowing undigested food particles, toxins, and other harmful substances to leak into the bloodstream.  Would you believe that conventional doctors did not acknowledge this leaky gut health condition several years ago?
I am a fan of functional medicine testing and running the most beneficial specialized labs to get to the root cause of all health issues. When dealing with conventional medicine practitioners, you must become your health detective because their lab options are very limited and archaic.
This leakage can trigger an immune response and lead to various health problems. https://nancyguberti.com/leaky-gut-symptoms-and-natural-remedies/

SIBO stands for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, a condition where bacteria grow excessively in the small intestine. Compared to the colon, the small intestine usually has relatively low levels of bacteria. When bacteria overgrow in the small intestine, it can lead to digestive symptoms and nutrient malabsorption.
The gut microbiome is crucial in maintaining overall health, including immune function. Around 70% of the body’s immune system is in the gut, which interacts with trillions of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbes.
An imbalanced gut microbiome, or dysbiosis, can contribute to various chronic digestive ailments and may even have implications for autoimmune diseases. https://nancyguberti.com/sibo-symptoms-supplements-diet-and-more/

Inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury or infection, but it can lead to various health issues when it becomes chronic. There’s been much emphasis on inflammation in all diseases, so let’s explore this topic, offering signs, symptoms, and solutions.
Your Diet and Inflammation Connection
The connection between diet and inflammation is widely acknowledged. Specific food components can trigger the immune system by stimulating the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (essential proteins in cell signaling) or inhibiting the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines.
A diet labeled ” pro-inflammatory ” can potentially exacerbate inflammation in the body over time. Typically, such diets lack sufficient fresh produce, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, while being high in commercially baked goods, fried foods, added sugars, and red and processed meats.
Conversely, adhering to an “anti-inflammatory” diet is linked to lower levels of inflammation within the body. There isn’t a single prescribed anti-inflammatory diet. https://nancyguberti.com/signs-symptoms-and-solutions-for-inflammation/

Signs of a parasitic infection can vary depending on the type of parasite and its location in the body.
Here are some general signs that may indicate you have a parasite:
Digestive Issues: Persistent diarrhea, constipation, bloating, gas, abdominal pain, or nausea could indicate a parasitic infection, especially if they don’t improve with dietary changes or medication.
Unexplained Weight Loss: Parasites can cause weight loss by stealing nutrients from your body or decreasing your appetite.
Fatigue: Chronic fatigue or weakness can result from your body’s constant struggle against a parasitic infection.
Skin Issues: Rashes, hives, eczema, or other unexplained skin irritations may occur due to the body’s immune response to parasites. Continue at https://nancyguberti.com/signs-you-may-have-a-parasite/

Your hormones play an integral role in your total wellness and overall health. A broad range of signs and symptoms could signal a hormonal imbalance depending on the hormones or glands that are not working correctly.
Several signs, such as weight gain, fatigue, and anxiety, can signal a hormonal imbalance. Many conditions that cause hormonal imbalance need addressing and support. Your hormones assist in controlling many of your body’s major processes, such as metabolism and reproduction. When you have a hormonal imbalance, you have either too much or too little of a particular hormone, causing the imbalance. Even small changes can have serious adverse effects throughout your whole body.
Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers and are produced by glands in the endocrine system. These messengers tell your cells, organs, and tissues what to do. Hormones help regulate many vital functions in the body:
• mood
• body temperature
• metabolism
• heart rate
• sleep
• reproductive cycles
• growth
• stress
Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalances
Bloating, fatigue, mood swings, weight gain, and fluctuations in body temperature are some of the many symptoms of hormonal imbalance in women. Hormone imbalances can also cause delayed or skipped periods. These imbalances can impact personal comfort, focus, health, work performance, and relationships with loved ones. Hormonal imbalance symptoms in females include: Read more at https://nancyguberti.com/symptoms-of-hormone-imbalance/

We understand “you are what you eat,” but we must understand “you are what you think.” What goes on in your mind has a profound effect on your body. Thoughts and emotions affect all organs, including the immune, nervous, hormonal, circulatory, and reproductive systems. Emotional wellness is a vital part of your health & total wellness. Emotions are part of life, but when our emotions become excessive or repressed for a long time, they negatively impact and upset the energy flow through our meridians.
Look at your heart, the organ that pumps blood to nourish the cells. Anxiety can affect functioning, raising your blood pressure and white blood cell count and increasing blood sugar through the action of adrenalin. Stress affects circulation, the heart, and the nervous system. In early Western medicine, doctors already believed emotions caused diseases. There is a powerful mind-body connection through which emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral factors can directly affect our health. Living with fear is highly stressful; it often leads to depression and negatively impacts health. Each day, learning to unwind before bed and nourishing a grateful heart with optimistic thinking is good for your health. What are your neurotransmitter levels? Are they balanced or imbalanced?

Can you have Anxiety and Depression at the same time?
Many people will experience co-existing depression and anxiety. A World Health Organisation (WHO) World Mental Health Survey found that 41% of people with a year-long major depressive disorder also had one or more anxiety disorders over the same 12-month period.
Anxiety and Depression Symptoms
Depression and anxiety differ when it comes to some key signs and symptoms: Depression symptoms:
Intense feelings of sadness
Guilt
Worthlessness or hopelessness
Tearfulness
Suicidal thoughts
Anxiety symptoms:
Sense of worry, dread or apprehension
Feeling trapped
Fearful, paranoid and tense
Extreme stress
Shortness of breath and tightness in your chest
Overlapping symptoms
It’s important to recognise that, with depression and anxiety, you may get a totally separate set of symptoms than someone else. However, there are many areas where the two share similar symptoms. Any of the following could be as a result of either anxiety or depression:
Fatigue, or a decrease in your energy levels
General sense of irritability or anger
Unexplained aches and pains
Changes to sleeping patterns, be it a lack of sleep or oversleeping
Decrease in your mood
Unable to relax, focus or concentrate. Make your mental health a top priority. Knowledge is empowering and may assist you on your wellness journey.

Addressing the root causes of mental and behavioral health crises will require taking into account a wide array of health factors.
Almost a third of U.S. adults are reporting symptoms of either depression or anxiety, roughly three times as many as in 2019, and about one in 25 adults has a severe mental illness like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
As of late 2022, just 31% of U.S. adults considered their mental health “excellent,” down from 43% two decades earlier.
In the United States, depression is a common mental health disorder. Adults with depression with moderate or severe cases have a higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, according to a 2023 study published in JAMA Network Open.
The latest federal estimates show that about one in eight U.S. adults now takes an antidepressant, and one in five has recently received some mental health care, an increase of almost 15 million people in treatment since 2002. Even in the recent past, from 2019 to 2022, the use of mental health services jumped by nearly 40% among millions of U.S. adults with commercial insurance, according to a recent study in the JAMA Health Forum.
Research is showing that antidepressants are not the cure-all. Medication might help with symptoms, but it can’t overcome the basic facts of someone’s life, whether they’re grieving a loved one going through a divorce, being bullied at school, dealing with discrimination, or struggling with loneliness. Adopting a healthy lifestyle with the essential steps of healthy foods, customized nutraceuticals, exercise, mindfulness, exercise and quality sleep can make a positive impact.
