Dean Owens Musician - Official is in country! He'll be playing Saturday Oct 5 backed by Wild Ponies at the 2024 Albino Skunk Music Festival. See you there,
Happy Birthday to The Boss, Glynn A. Zeigler. It's a pretty notable one. We won't say how many years, but it's the same one Bruce Springsteen is celebrating today.
Where else can you see your favorite Alt-Country band from L.A. play a tune by your favorite band from Austin, TX? And they're both here soon to help us celebrate our 30th year!
(And a huge thank you to our friends at Brando Jones Films for this video)
I See Hawks In LA Live from Albino Skunk Music Festival Welcome to the official playlist of the Albino Skunk Music Festival, brought to life through the lens of Brando Jones Films. Nestled in the heart of the South Carolina…
One (two) more from the woman of the hour, Sierra Ferrell.
Congratulations to Sierra Ferrell on her well-deserved Album and Artist of the year wins last night at the Americana Music Association Awards. She's a three-time Skunker. You know how that goes. Zig knows first. See you in October for the 2024 Albino Skunk Music Festival.

We still have some volunteer shifts available for the 2024 Albino Skunk Music Festival. With our added day of music for our special 30th year fest, we've got added needs. Our crew is a fun group to get to know while you earn a ticket. We all share a love of music and community. We are again directing the proceeds of DeTour de Skunk (at the 2024 Albino Skunk Music Festival) to Joshua Ray Walker to defray the costs of and his ongoing cancer treatment and the resulting time off the road. He's a unique talent we plan to have back on our stage as soon as he is able, hopefully in 2025. To make an immediate donation and learn more, you can use this GoFundMe link https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-joshua-ray-walkers-fight-against-colon-cancer?
HEALTH UPDATE:
Hey y’all! Once again, I’ve got some good and bad news to deliver. The good news is that I’ve finished chemo treatment! It was extremely tough, and I want to thank y’all so much for supporting me through this experience. My body handled it reasonably well, and I’ve begun to rebuild my strength and immune system! The bad news is that upon the completion of tests to check on the status of my cancer post treatment, multiple nodes of varying sizes were found in both my lungs.
-
Before I started chemo, I was told I had a 90% chance of having clear tests post treatment. So to find completely new growth in a new organ was something for which I was not prepared. This unfortunately means my cancer will likely be restaged to stage 4. I will get a lung biopsy, and start radiation soon. I wish I had more information to share but I’m still waiting to meet with a radiology oncologist following my biopsy surgery. I will keep y’all as updated as possible, and I will continue to fight my hardest. The odds have definitely shifted, but I’m not going to publish them here. It seems defeatist, and unnecessary. I’ll let you know what they were after I beat them. I’ve always lived life to the fullest and I will continue to do so.
-
When times are hard my instinct is to figure out how to survive financially. I work harder to ensure that me and my loved ones will have basic necessities. This trait has been very useful in life, but it makes it hard to rest when life’s difficulties aren’t solely monetary. I have a hard time asking for help, even when I believe it will be given happily. I’m launching a GoFundMe that will allow me to focus exclusively on my health and relationships during this precious time. I thank everyone so much in advance for their continued love and support. Love y’all so much.

Thinking a lot lately about past fests, performers and attendees alike. So many have helped us in so many ways to create this fiercely independent musical family reunion. Many are no longer with us, at least physically. Photo on the left is the stage from our first Skunkfest, Friday September 29, 1995. Music started at 6:30 pm for our one evening party. The orange tarp is where part of our stage is now, the tree is long gone.
We started out as a small backyard gathering of friends to listen to live music. After 30 years, we’ve evolved into pretty much still a backyard gathering of friends listening to live music.
Early Bird pricing for our big 30th year fall fest ends in 9 days. And we're almost out of Reserved RV sites. You know what to do.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing last week of our dear friend ,Steve ‘Little King’ Metcalf. Steve made a huge & lasting impact on live music here in our area. And we all loved him, one of those people we loved to know.
The SkunkBoys made numerous trips to Green Acres to enjoy phenomenal shows, even before we were SkunkBoys. Our first live music excursion in our 1951 GMC SkunkBus was to Green Acres. We witnessed numerous national touring artists there. Just a few pictured below, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones ,Leftover Salmon, Sam Bush, Darrell Scott, John Cowan Music and the guys who originally worked the parking lot - Acoustic Syndicate. Not pictured, David Grisman signed ‘Dawg was here!’ on the SkunkBus there.
And we were always were delighted and honored to have Steve join us at SkunkFests.
So it’s an appropriate time to make this announcement.
We are celebrating our 30th year of SkunkFests in October. There will be a ‘Wall of Remembrance’ set up for our Skunkers (patrons) to post pictures and notes commentating our music friends who are no longer with us. We’ve lost artists, SkunkBoys, Skunkers and volunteers over these years.
We want to honor them at a place where we all enjoyed our live music gathering.
So, let’s all give a big shout out to the memory of Little King - 1 2 3 FES-TAA-VUL!

You may have noticed we snuck in another act for the 2024 Albino Skunk Music Festival. Zig can't help himself sometimes. We're happy to have Wild Ponies return. They'll play an early set on Saturday, then they'll back up Dean Owens Musician - Official's set, as their Skunkfest alter egos, Merle Haggis and the Shetland Ponies. Great fun!
SPOTLIGHT: On ‘Dreamers,’ Wild Ponies Let Love Take the Reins What Doug and Telisha Williams know about love comes out in their songs and in how they live their lives. Maybe it’s messy sometimes, but it never misses the mark.
Always fun to see where folks from our stage go. Sierra Ferrell has pretty much gone into orbit! We're about 6 weeks out from the 2024 Albino Skunk Music Festival, where we'll present some future Musical Astronauts. Early bird tickets and Reserved RV camping spots are running out, get yours soon at albinoskunk.com.

Jim Lauderdale and Aaron Raitiere are prolific songwriters to say the least. Jim's released well over 30 albums and has shared songwriting credits with all kinds of folks, from Robert Hunter to Elvis Costello to Rodney Crowell to his wingman Buddy Miller to Aaron Raitiere and so forth. If Jim hasn't written a song with you yet, he probably will soon. And Aaron cranks out witty and catchy songs faster than we can keep up with. His Instagram Reel of "My Friend, Ben" filmed at SpringSkunk is currently up to 9.4 MILLION streams. This photo from our last festival caught Jim and Aaron co-writing songs backstage (looks like a fun job, doesn't it?) So here's a treat for the Fall festival. On Wednesday evening after their individual sets, Jim and Aaron will collaborate with YOU: they're going to co-write a song live, on-stage, with Skunkfest audience input. Then, we'll finish the night with Caleb Caudle and Ruen Brothers full band sets. How bout them apples? Wait. Is that the song title or the first line of the chorus? We'll find out on October 2!
For a listing of which artists are performing which daze, check out the details on our FB event page for Fall Skunk, 2024 Albino Skunk Music Festival. Stage schedule to come later. Wednesday evening, though ... stay tuned for one more announcement. Some "usually-on-the-weekend" artists are on the list for Wednesday this time. We'll also have some music from main-stage performers on the Kidthedral stage too. Look for details on that as we get closer to fest time. Also, if you have a friend named Ben, you should invite him to attend.

Our Story
The Skunk Farm is a unique music and camping venue in Upstate South Carolina in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We host two yearly music festivals. SpringSkunk Music Fest takes place the second weekend of April, and the Albino Skunk Music Festival takes place the first weekend in October. Both are often called “SkunkFest” by our attendees and artists. Originally founded as a bluegrass music festival, SkunkFest now features all sorts of mostly acoustic music – including Americana, Folk, Singer-Songwriter, Alt. Country, Acoustic, Roots and Bluegrass. We’re proud of our eclectic mix of music – check out our next SkunkFest lineup on our website - www.albinoskunk.com
📷SkunkFest is held on the grounds of Glynn Zeigler’s old farm place north of Greer. SkunkFest was initially private but is now open to the music-loving public. Local food vendors, Craft beers served up by The Community Tap, Handmade Crafts and Kiddieland with playground, activities, kid’s shows & drive-in movie are some of the attractions besides the phenomenal music. Primitive tent camping & RV Camping area (sorry no hook-ups) on site within easy walking distance to everything. No shuttles needed from camping areas or our parking lot.
The festival got its name from the sightings of white skunks on the grounds. (Well, mostly white with a dark stripe – they’re not true albinos!) Each Fest, we have a ‘theme’ for the fest, featuring original drawings of the Albino Skunk characters promoting all sorts of topical and not-so topical themes. It’s all part of the fun.
We are proud of our natural setting and laid back atmosphere that takes you away from the stress and anxieties of modern living. Our goal is to provide a ‘family reunion’ atmosphere and introduce you to new talent that may very well become your next favorite band.
