Did you know...... that Lamprey are 450 million years old? Take that sturgeon and dinosaurs!..larval Lamprey burrow in the sediment for 10 years? They are tiny little excavators of the river bottom making them ecologically important even as youngsters...that Lamprey are culturally important to native American tribes? Returning adult Pacific Lamprey were once abundant and harvested by tribal communities. These tribes are now part of the effort to conserve lamprey and increase their numbers.
