PROFESSIONAL RANT / BUYER BEWARE!
We wanted to bring a matter of concern to our customers. This was brought to our attention by about 6 customers thus far. Some of our competition (we can’t name names, but their names sound like “Keefe’s, Surgi’s / Bryan’s-United and H&E”) have apparently been trying to steal and deceive our customers (by phone call) into switching to them by portraying themselves as us. Here’s how the gimmick works…….”Hello, Mrs. Jones, it’s Brian with YOUR air conditioning company. I was calling to setup your annual service. Can we set that up at this time?” Seems harmless, but they are very clever in that they don’t want to disclose their company name, only as “your air conditioning company”. Only after some of our customers pushed them to disclose who they worked for (and that took some back / forth), did they offer up what company they are with. These companies are banking on the fact that many of our customers have maintenance plans with us and are used to getting that call every 6 months. But, let’s be honest here - IT’S DECEPTIVE and IT’S WRONG. They especially prey on our older clientele who can be manipulated easier and may not suspect anything at all. I was hesitant to post about this and dismissed it at first, but it’s been bothering me. Bigger companies (not all, but most) could care less about you. It’s a money racket and they like to lure people with lowball prices and gimmicks such as this (you’ve seen those flyers for $59 check ups, right?? Yep, that’s a scam. And they WILL find a way to charge you more). You never know who will show up at your door. Frankly, many of these companies are hiring “bodies”, not competent technicians with experience, integrity and know-how. These larger companies love to push sales (by any means) and sometimes resort to dishonest things to drive the ticket price up. We’ve been behind many of them that told customers the unit was bad and it needed to be replaced. We go behind them and find it was a simple fix and they turned power off to unit. It’s all about numbers and profit. While we are also in business to make a profit, one thing we will NEVER do is lie to our customers and deceive them. We value our customers. Many of them are like family to us. Don’t be afraid to call these companies out. Just be cautious who you are dealing with. We have proudly served our customers for nearly 100 years (97 years in business) and we will continue to EARN YOUR BUSINESS the right way - with honesty, fairness and integrity.

Record-high temps like most of us have never seen. Did you know your system is designed to operate at a 20 degree temperature split??? What does that mean?? So, on a 90 degree day, your system should cool your house to around 70 degrees (pending how well-insulated your house is). But, with outside temps peaking 100 degrees, your system may struggle to get below 78-80 degrees. Please consider this. And try to raise your thermostats as high as comfortably possible. BEFORE and AFTER cleaning the outside condenser coils for one of our maintenance accounts. Helpful hint is to turn the system OFF when someone is cutting your yard, as the outdoor unit acts as a vacuum and sucks air, debris, dust and grass clippings into the condenser coils, thus clogging them and restricting air, all while driving up your utility expense and reducing your cooling capacity. Did you know that your HVAC system accounts for about 50% of your utility bill??? Did you know that a dirty outside condenser coil can decrease your systems efficiency by over 30% and sometimes up to 50%?? So, we get this question a lot……..should I use the cheaper fiberglass filters or the more expensive pleated filters. We will always recommend using the BETTER pleated filters. Yes, they may restrict the air more, but if your return air grill is sized properly, that shouldn’t be a problem. One of the experiments we’ve performed in the past involved pouring salt or pepper through the cheaper fiberglass filters and, surprisingly, most of it went completely THROUGH the filter. Just think what that’s doing to your equipment, as far as dirt and dust going through that filter and clogging your equipment and causing hundreds (or thousands) of dollars to clean or replace the equipment when it gets too bad…….better to spend a few more dollars and get a pleated filter that actually captures the dirt than spend hundreds or thousands to fix the mess after the damage is done. What’s the purpose of a filter if it doesn’t capture what it’s intended to capture??? Please feel free to shoot us a question, or comment below, regarding any concerns you have about this. We were called out to a Church in Lafitte today to give a second opinion. Another company told them the system was unrepairable and they would need to replace the entire system. Have you had your roof replaced recently from storm damage?? Or will you be replacing your roof soon??? Too often, what we see is that roofers drop your ventpipe (from your furnace) into the attic and DO NOT reattach it, nor tell you that they disconnected it. This poses a SERIOUS safety / carbon monoxide hazard and you would never know it, since it’s not something you can easily see. We’re not trying to bad-mouth roofers or call anyone out, but the sad reality is that this happens more than it should. Please make sure that your ventpipe is fully intact before the roofer completes his work. If unsure, call us and we can inspect it thoroughly and test the furnace for proper operation as well. Because of Hurricane IDA, unfortunately we saw many outdoor units literally tipped over or pushed off of their bases.
