Custom Builder to Realtor
( I am currently in the process of writing my story :) Just one of a million things on my To Do List!
I started in the housing industry, believe it or not, as a child! My father was a carpenter and a small home builder/re-modeler. My job, was to take detailed phone messages! LOL! I bought my first home when I was 25. My dad built the cutest play house for my daughter. With matching siding, shingles and shutters it looked just like our house! It was the last project that he would build. He passed away just 4 months later. The trauma continued to turn my life upside down as my mother passed away just 10 months after that. Neither of my parents were there to enjoy the process of building my dream home. After building, the builder asked me to go to work for them as a new home sales consultant. It was my dream job! I worked endless hours to learn everything I could about the industry! I was like a sponge. I just couldn’t get enough of it. After working for someone else for 5 years, I decided that I wanted to go into business for myself! If “he” could do, so could I!! Obviously I didn’t know what I didn’t know! I had a huge amount of support and in 2002 I opened Ashley Homes. I was a full service home builder- designing and building homes on the owner’s land. I surrounded myself with amazing talent and we were very successful! We built 32 homes in a span of 7 years. All in central and southern Ohio. I had 9 employees, 32 subcontractors and suppliers , trucks, land, billboards, magazine articles....and at 35 years old I was living my dream! We built a million dollar home in the 2007 BIA Parade of Homes located on The Pinnacle Golf Course in Grove City, Ohio. We won several awards including the two top awards: People’s Choice and Favorite Design! And then...the market crashed. Thank God, my parade home sold. Many did not.
