Here's the Gulf State Park Pier update you've all been waiting for - and the excitement is high here at the park. Visitors can return to Gulf State Park-Alabama Pier on Monday, August 19! We can't wait to see you then!

The Pier will reopen to sightseers and anglers on Monday, Aug. 19, at 7 a.m., as the renovation work that began in November 2023 has been completed. The Pier will not be open prior to 7 a.m. - so be ready to join us then!

A formal ribbon-cutting and community celebration is being planned for a later date, so stay tuned to this page and Alabama State Parks for more information!

At this time, Baldwin County EMA is encouraging residents and visitors of Baldwin County to monitor local weather and be prepared should we have direct impacts to our area. There is no need to panic, however, it’s always a good idea to be prepared and stay informed.

Please be aware of the latest update from National Weather Service:

“Overview/What's New: There is a tropical wave (disturbance) currently located near Puerto Rico that is anticipated to move west-northwestward and could develop into a tropical depression this weekend or early next week over the eastern Gulf or far southwestern Atlantic ocean. There is a near zero percent chance of tropical cyclone formation within the next 48 hours, and a 60% chance within the next 7 days. At this time, there is a LARGE AMOUNTS OF UNCERTAINTY with this system's trajectory, but trends will be closely monitored over the coming days.”

Preparedness Tips:

1. Have multiple ways of receiving correct information from National Weather Service of Mobile, Baldwin County EMA, and your local news outlets.
2. Sign up for local, emergency alerts through www.alertbaldwin.com/.
3. Know your risks and potential impacts. Know your location on a map, your evacuation zone and potential evacuation routes.
4. Have any necessary supplies gathered to be self-sufficient for 5 days. Don’t forget medications and pet supplies.
5. Review important documents and insurance policies. Make sure you have flood insurance if needed.
6. Make an emergency plan and ensure all family members know how to contact each other and where to meet in case of an evacuation.
7. Steer clear of misinformation (especially on social media). Have multiple forms of receiving CORRECT information. (Baldwin County EMA, National Weather Service of Mobile, Local media outlets, etc.)
8. Monitor daily beach conditions and be aware of flag warnings. For a daily beach report, text ALBEACHES to 888777.

3 Ways You Can “Beach Safe” on Alabama’s Beaches:⬇️

🚩Check the beach flags before heading out to a day of play on the beach. You can do this by signing up for text alerts, calling 251-968-SURF (7873) for Gulf Shores and 251-981-SURF (7873) for Orange Beach, or visiting our website.

🌊Be aware of rip currents. They are easiest to spot in the gaps between the waves. Look for discolored water with a substantial amount of sediment. Be extra careful near sand bars, piers, pilings, and jetties.

☀️Practice sun safety. Pack and apply sunscreen 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every 2 hours. Children need additional protection, so be sure to pack a hat and apply their sunscreen more frequently. It is also important to stay hydrated while spending a day in the sun.
