Thursday, July 25th is Miracle Treat Day at DQ’s across the country, including this one here in Gulfport, MS.

We will be raising money and awareness for our local Children’s Miracle Network hospital. ALL funds raised here at this store will go directly to Children's Hospital New Orleans. A portion of the proceeds from all Blizzards sold on MTD will go to CHNO.

We will also be hosting our 3rd annual Blizzard Battle between the Gulfport Fire Department and the Gulfport Police Department at 2:00 on Miracle Treat Day. And for the first time this year we will have a second Blizzard Battle at 6:00 between the youth groups of two great local churches O'Neal Road Church of Christ and Long Beach Church of Christ - Mississippi. Please come and show your support, watch a great show and buy a Blizzard or two… or 34 while you are here.

You can order ahead for large groups, or we can sell coupons that can be redeemed at your convenience.

We are also selling Miracle Balloons all month long. If you donate $1 to CHNO, you will receive $2 in Dairy Queen coupons.

We also raise funds year-round using our donation canisters in front of the registers, you can also let your cashier know and we can round your total up to the nearest dollar in support of this great cause.

Judith “Judy” Kay Trammell Moore peacefully passed away not far from her home in Long Beach, MS at the age of 78 on Thursday, November 23rd, 2023, to be with the Lord. She was born on December 13, 1944, in Memphis, TN to JP “Jake” Trammell and Julia Kathryn “Kat” Thompson Trammell. She was a remarkable and affectionate wife, mother, grandmother , and friend, leaving behind cherished memories. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Tommy Trammell, and her sister Carolyn Aucoin. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, George Moore. Judy's legacy lives on through her 5 children: Teki Groff (Eric) of Memphis, TN; Matthew Moore (Amy) of Atlanta, GA; Jacy Taylor (Cameron) of Memphis, TN; Joe Moore (Nikki) of Long Beach, MS and Jennifer Griffin (Tim) of Long Beach, MS. She was a beloved Granny to her 13 grandchildren: Marty Moore (Jaden), Rebekah Taylor, Steven Groff, Jonah Taylor, Jake Moore, Gracie Moore, Eli Griffin, Selah Taylor, Reagan Moore, Julia Griffin, Cole Moore, Georgia Griffin and Tommy Moore and their two dogs Penny and Muddy. George and Judy’s love story began with a blind date in San Francisco, CA. They were married soon thereafter and in 1972 moved to Memphis, TN where they spent 18 years raising their 5 children. In 1990 they took a leap of faith and moved to Gulfport, MS to start their own business. Judy and George have now owned and operated the Gulfport Dairy Queen for a little over 33 years. Judy will be deeply missed by all who crossed her path both personally and professionally. She not only knew God’s word, she lived it. Over the course of their marriage, the Moores have been members of the Church of Christ in many cities, but most recently and for the past 30 years they have called the Long Beach Church of Christ home. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all of those who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 27th, 2023, from 6 - 8 pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home,19130 Commission Road in Long Beach, MS. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023, at the Long Beach Church of Christ, 200 N. Cleveland Ave in Long Beach, MS. Interment will be at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023 at the Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Blvd in Biloxi, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and Long Beach Church of Christ.

Please say a prayer for our family today. My mom passed away this morning after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Today we give thanks for the time we had with her on this earth and the eternity that we will spend with her in heaven. We love you Mom/Granny/Ms. Judy

Do yourself a favor and come have lunch with Jake. He will deliver your food with a smile and leave you smiling the rest of the afternoon.

A couple of things:

If you came last week and the doors were locked, I apologize. My father-in-law (Nikki's father) passed away and we had to make an unexpected trip to Arkansas for the week. The store not only lost me and Nikki for the week, but also lost our son Jake who helps us out at lunch. There were times when we were drive-thru only and times when we had to close altogether due to a lack of employees.

Thursday night, our Oneal Road Lads to Leaders fundraiser was a tremendous success. We raised double the amount that I anticipated, and the money went to a great cause. We will have another Lads to Leaders fundraiser on October the 5th for the Long Beach Church of Christ. This will be from 5-9 and 25% of sales will go to that program. Look for more on that in the coming weeks.

These great kids are raising money to help fund their trip to Atlanta for the annual convention where they will compete in events such as song leading, scripture reading, speech, debate and Bible bowl... while at the same time helping shape their future as future leaders of the church and community. These kids need your support. Come in tonight from 5-9 and 25% of sales will go straight to them. If you can't make it to the store, you can also order delivery through DoorDash, UberEats or GrubHub. We're collecting gently worn, used and new shoes to raise money for our kids at O'Neal Road Church of Christ to go to the Lads to Leaders Convention in Atlanta! Not only do you help us, but the shoes also get a second life with those in need. It's a double donation! You can drop off anytime during business hours. We will also be hosting a fundraiser night for the kids on Thursday, September 7th from 5-9PM. 25% of sales during that time will help fund their trip to Atlanta where these kids will be competing in events such as song leading, scripture reading, Bible bowl, speech and debate while at the same time learning how to be future leaders of the church... and all aspects of their lives.

We had a great Miracle Treat Day yesterday!! Thanks to everyone for their support. If you drove by yesterday and saw all of the first responder vehicles at our restaurant, I promise that we are all okay. We had our 2nd annual Blizzard Battle between the Gulfport Fire Department and the Gulfport Police Department. The Gulfport FD took home their second trophy, but it was by a closer margin than last year. Thanks to Verlon Carrell Jr. for being our emcee. Thanks to Redd Pest Solutions for their generous donation. All of this was to support Children's Hospital New Orleans, our local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. In the end, we ended up raising $1,200 which broke our previous record.

This Thursday, July 28th is Miracle Treat Day at DQ. A portion of the proceeds from all Blizzard sales are going directly to Children's Hospital New Orleans. We are planning some exciting events for this day. Schooner from the Shuckers will be here at 11AM and we have a Blizzard eating contest between the Gulfport Police Department and the Gulfport Fire Department at 2PM. We are also giving away 4 tickets to a Shuckers game along with some other prizes. All you need to do is Buy a $1 Miracle balloon and receive an entry into the drawing along with $2 in coupons. Right now, is the time to put a reminder on your phone to stop in on the 28th and buy a Blizzard or two... or 50. This would also be a great opportunity to buy Blizzards for your team at work while supporting a great cause. If you would like to order Blizzards in advance, we can take orders over the phone and have them ready for pick-up on the 28th. We can also sell Blizzard coupons that can be handed out to your team so that they can redeem them at a time that is convenient to them. ABOUT A YEAR AGO WE DECIDED THAT IN ORDER TO COMBAT THE EMPLOYEE SHORTAGE THAT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE TO CLOSE ONE DAY PER WEEK. WE CHOSE SUNDAY SO THAT WE AND OUR EMPLOYEES COULD HAVE A DAY TO BREATHE. WE ALSO CHOSE SUNDAY BECAUSE IT GAVE US THE ABILITY TO ATTEND CHURCH AND GROW IN OUR PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH GOD. IT TURNS OUT TO BE ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS THAT WE EVER MADE. HOWEVER, WE KNOW AS BUSINESS OWNERS THAT THE TIME HAS COME TO REOPEN THE DOORS ON SUNDAY. THE EMPLOYMENT SHORTAGE IS NOT OVER AND WILL NOT BE OVER FOR A WHILE, SO IN ORDER TO OPEN ON SUNDAYS SOMETHING ELSE HAS TO GO. BREAKFAST, UNFORTUNATELY, IS THAT SOMETHING ELSE. WE HAVE BEEN SERVING BREAKFAST AT THIS LOCATION FOR OVER 20 YEARS, SO THIS WAS NOT AN EASY DECISION TO MAKE. BUT AFTER LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS THIS ONLY MAKES SENSE. STAFFING WILL BE EASIER AND QUALITY OF LIFE WILL BE MUCH BETTER FOR ALL OF US.

SOME OF OUR MOST LOYAL CUSTOMERS ARE BREAKFAST CUSTOMERS. WE HAVE MET SOME AMAZING PEOPLE JUST HANGING OUT IN THE LOBBY DURING BREAKFAST HOURS. MS. EARNASTINE AND MR. JONES ARE NO LONGER WITH US, BUT THEY ARE JUST TWO OF THE LOYAL CUSTOMERS THAT LEFT A LASTING IMPRESSION ON MY LIFE. I WOULDN’T HAVE GOTTEN TO KNOW THEM, IF IT WEREN’T FOR BREAKFAST AT THE DQ. THIS SHOULD PROVE THAT THIS ONE STINGS JUST A LITTLE FOR ALL OF US, BUT I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE DECISION THAT NEEDS TO BE MADE. THERE MAY BE A TIME IN THE FUTURE WHEN STAFFING GETS BETTER AND WE DECIDE TO REOPEN FOR BREAKFAST. WE WILL LET LIFE MAKE THAT DECISION FOR US WHEN THE TIME COMES.
