2024-25 VERIFICATION OF RESIDENCY FOR STUDENT REGISTRATION

Proof of residency and other required documents for registration will be accepted at schools in HCSD starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16. Only returning students may upload proofs of residency during online registration. Please check out the flyer for acceptable documents.

Our clerks will be back in the office on July 16 to assist families with school registration.

Congratulations, Dr. Marks!

We are excited to announce that Dr. Laretta Marks will serve as one of three new Assistant Superintendents in HCSD!

Dr. Marks began her distinguished career in education in the Harrison County School District. Over the years, she has held various pivotal roles, including special education teacher at North Gulfport Middle School, assistant principal at Harrison Central Elementary, principal of Lyman Elementary, and Director of Student Services for the school district.

Dr. Marks earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees from Jackson State University, followed by her Specialist and Doctoral degrees in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Marks is deeply committed to her work, bringing a wealth of experience and a passion for educational excellence to her current role. She firmly believes in the importance of providing all students in HCSD with a high-quality education, ensuring they have the necessary tools and opportunities to become productive and successful citizens. Her dedication to student success is evident in her unwavering support for both our students and staff.

2024-25 SCHOOL MEAL APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

Starting today, HCSD parents/guardians may complete Free/Reduced-Price School Meal Applications for the 2024-25 school year. The district website's link is now active: https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Even if your child qualified for free/reduced-price meals last school year, you still need to complete a new application for the upcoming school year. If you have children attending different campuses, you only need to complete one application per household. If you have any questions or need assistance, please call the HCSD Office of Child Nutrition at (228) 539-6500.

HCSD PARENTS/GUARDIANS – MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Online student registration for the 2024-25 school year will open on July 15. Starting June 25, parents of returning students will be notified via ParentSquare of the dates for registration, along with SnapCodes. Exciting news! Dr. Natasha R. Williams has been named Director of Research and Development for the Harrison County School District!

Dr. Williams has served as a teacher, lead teacher, assistant principal, and principal in HCSD. During her 24 years in the Harrison County School District, she has been involved in opening two schools, Crossroads Elementary School and West Harrison Middle School. She has been recognized as Teacher of the Year—Saucier Elementary School, Kiwanis Teacher of the Month, Gulfport Chamber of Commerce Administrator of the Year, and Harrison County School District Administrator of the Year.

Dr. Williams is excited to serve in this new role and looks forward to cultivating an innovative and supportive educational environment. As Research and Development Director, a few of her responsibilities will consist of Policy Review and Revisions, Recruitment & Retention, Collaborative Community Partnerships, and Recognition of Successes in the Harrison County School District.

Dr. Williams is married to Paul Williams, and they have two sons, Paul II and Roman.

We are thrilled to announce that Mrs. April Daniels has been named the new principal of West Harrison Middle School!

Mrs. Daniels began her career in Jackson Public Schools as a fifth-grade teacher. She later taught at Carver Middle School and served in various roles in the Hattiesburg School District, including teacher, interventionist, and instructional coach.

Mrs. Daniels has worked in the Harrison County School District for the past six years. Her dedication to education is evident in her impressive academic background, including a Bachelor’s Degree, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership.

With over 16 years in education, Mrs. Daniels is no stranger to success. She has been recognized as Teacher of the Year and was honored as Harrison County School District’s Administrator of the Year in 2023. In addition, Mrs. Daniels recently graduated from the prestigious PREPS CEO Leadership Academy. Her passion for education and creating a positive learning environment for all students is truly inspiring.

On a personal note, Mrs. Daniels is married to Mr. Kevin Daniels, an educator and coach in Harrison County. They are the parents of four incredible children: Jaylen, Jordan, Alexis, and Laila.

• 8th grade course request submissions within PowerSchool must be completed on a 𝑳𝑨𝑷𝑻𝑶𝑷 or 𝑪𝑶𝑴𝑷𝑼𝑻𝑬𝑹 [so are not able to be completed on a cell phone/smart device]. The 8th grade class registration screen is accessible through students' PowerSchool accounts -𝘈𝘕𝘋- through the PowerSchool parent portal!
• Course requests can be completed at home online through the student and parent PowerSchool portals on a computer device, -𝘖𝘙- can be done during school hours in students’ Cyber Foundations classes where all students have access
to desktop computers.
• The Alternate Elective choice 𝘔𝘜𝘚𝘛 be different than the student’s primary elective selection. (EX: If a student selects Robotics as their primary elective choice, then the Alternate Elective cannot also be Robotics.)
• Students can resubmit their course requests until the deadline tomorrow (Tues., May 21st by 11:59pm) if wishing to modify their initial selections!
